inter had it's usual cl jitters and not playing either of the two centrebacks didn't help, once cordoba came on we controlled the game but looked the normal "nervous as shit in cl" (the last third was horrid on so many levels throughout the game). on a normal day they 1) wouldn't have gotten those chanses in first half (chosing rivas was a rookie mistake far as inter is concerned that i don't think mourinho will do twice. hopefully the experiment with muntari is over and done with as well. figo was on the bench. vieira and mancini are both on the payrole. maybe we should try playing mancini on the left flank or have figo push zanetti to the left? it's a thought...) 2) we'd been far more accurate in our delivery. any of those who saw the derby know this was night and day from what it should be. even maicon (!) covered the stands with wild balls. maicon...
the ref - well, engerland is the new powerhouse in the ref market after the calciopoli. we've seen it in the prem, we saw it last year with the 10-men handicap against a impotent liverpool and we saw it again today with ronaldos target shooting. good for the prem, but as bad for football as when juventus and milan put it into system and worryingly familiar (it's begun to come back into fashion in serie a as well, which means juventus will have a good shot). i'm sure some of you can empathise from a city perspective too. it's obvious bullshit.
ibrahimovic... i mean... he created half a dozen scoring chanses with toenails cutting him off, three of which should have been goals (2 x adriano, 1 x cambiasso), had two shots covered and was clear on a doubtful offside. he hardly made any mistakes, won the duels against ferdinand from his single outlet target man-position from the flanks and the hole... and i don't know about you guys... but at my end the comentators kept saying "ibrahimovic" everytime something happened at inter and they even took the time from their schedule of pissing on serie a and praising everything red to say that english journos should take note. if we compare him to ronaldo and strip the tranny free kicks and the early header i'd be hard pressed to see how tranny made more impact in uniteds game. it's not like he shined, but he put in a shift, did exactly what he was supposed to do in that situation and did it to almost a 100%. without it we'd been completely stuck in midfield. "isolated" is the key word. "poor" or "useless" though... i think we could need some of that "useless" in city tbh. as bleek performances go it was a pretty damn good one.
adriano... same as ibra. did what he was supposed to do. didn't have much fortune with the sitters, but all in all... can't see him being much worse than berbatov. didn't see berbatov picking down hoofs from a uncreative midfield/backline and dribble his way past his man as many times as adriano, but once again... "isolated".
cambiasso is brilliant and was brilliant in 2H. some people on the board wanted him and actually thought we were selling. they'll have to revive his dead corps before he leaves inter.
going to 4-3-3 was remarkable. it hasn't worked all season and it didn't work now. what we needed... and this was up for discussion ahead of the game as well... was more alternatives on the bench for the mid. or we could've even swapped figo for muntari and move zanetti to the left and voila, a completely different game. muntari was simply the crap de la crap and he hasn't impressed in anything but the grit performances (the only reason he's playing is probably because he's the only one of the players brought in under mourinho that hasn't been completely s**t). the 4-3-3 imo only caused us to be overrun in midfield, evened out the pressure and created space for united to hit us on the break. i also hope mourinho is taking a step back today and considers what happened next - i knew it was coming, the armchairs knew it was coming, the stands knew it was coming, lawro knew it was coming, and f-ing alex knew it was coming - 4-3-3, warm up rooney, d-o-h. it was a less than brilliant play but i can almost guarantee it was one that was layed out beforehand to capitalise on the late winner. the sneaky bids on the injury situation i think also threw jose and the players off, so cudos to him, he bested mourinho today. badly. and needlessly. maybe mancio would have known what to do with his players and system and would have thought twice before making arrogant statements... (mourinho out ;P)
i think we can still win it at OT though. man for man united looked weak when we anted up and samuel back with cordoba, muntari benched and a bit of "we got nothing to lose" to counter the psychological glitch and immense bottled up pressure from 40 years of a piss europe spell could very well tip the scale. last time we met we ran them over and scored 3 goals in 13 mins so it's hardly impossible. we know how easily they fold and they folded again today. i also fancy our chanses much more against a united trying to pressure us all throughout than the 8 man wall of second half as well - don't think the audience will stand for it much and it will create more room. man for man we got them covered on almost every position though. the one or two "elano out" guys reading this and clinching their fists firmly in their pockets might disagree and think it's partial, but i truly do belive this stand objectively too. we got the WC-competitive internationals, united has a lot of team players and the organisation and confidence to make it work. it's still ours for the taking which we partially saw today when the battle of the midfield tightened in second half, the head to head was ours and they relied on turn overs. so we are our own biggest enemies and united has very little say in it imo, but as inter goes it's nothing unusual. stick uniteds best in the mix and he will be aiming for the stands come europe.ce la vie.
and lol at the blues secretly supporting the rags to get one in on serie a btw! priorities much?
"foreigners, huff! bloody brazilians, italians and argentines don't know football. now where did i leave that rag c**k..? *nibble, nibble* good british c**k this is..." ;P
