Interesting stuff

Mine looked like a cricket bowl in the pan today.

Should I be worried?

A fathom is a measurement of 1.8 metres or 6 feet, used when referring to the depth of water.
On the old sailing ships when the rope wouldn't reach the sea bed, they couldn't measure the depth, hence, "can't fathom it"

Similarly when someone's ' swinging the lead' or a 'lead swinger' they were a guy with a rope and a wieght and his job was to drop or throw the lead weight into the sea untill it touched the bottom, he would then shout out the depth based on the number of 'knots' in the rope ( not quite to be confused with measuring the speed, as in knots...) Any how.....it was all to easy to make up a figure if he was a lazy twat.... hence, swinging the lead.....
