My hard drive sounds like it's dying a slow death so I need a new one. I want something quiet, reasonably fast, cheap and about 1TB.
Any recommendations will be welcome, aside from the usual bluemoon replies of 'shove it up your arse'.
Fucking PC is less than two years old and this will be the second major piece of hardware that's fucked up. I had to get a new power supply less than a year ago.

Not a bad price either bud.

Got this one a few weeks ago, no complaints.

'Currently' £40

Spend 150ish on an ssd drive it will last you your lifetime and make everything run smoother
I was going to mention SSD's (I wouldn't have anything else for a boot drive) but £150 will only get you a 500GB version, 1TB's add another £100 to that.

By the way if it's your only HD then you can clone it to the new drive using something like http://www.macrium.com/Download.aspx?type=home rather than reinstall everything. You'll need another SATA power and a SATA data cable.

£350 for the same size, a bit on the expensive side for me.

Cheers for the recommendations folks. I think I'll go with the WD that Guy suggested. It has some good reviews and is cheap enough.

I think I probably need to reinstall everything and do it properly this time. I fucked up when I set this one up and didn't do a recovery disc. Not sure if that's why it's never let me defrag it, but I did something wrong.

There's another option better quicker than a normal hard drive not as quick as a fully fledged ssd drive

WD Black2 Dual 2.5-inch 9.5 mm 1 TB SATA 6 Gbps Hard Drive and 120 GB SSD Internal Hard Drive - Retail Box <a class="postlink" href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GSJ9X4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_nIdcvb11ZAMP6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GSJ9X4Q/ ... cvb11ZAMP6</a>

Fair enough, sometimes a reinstall can be the best option anyway.

If you're on Windows 8 or 8.1 (probably 7 as well) you can create an installable USB stick (at least 4GB in size) from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media that'll speed things up. You just need your product key.

I know they're expensive, but an SSD is the single biggest performance upgrade you can give to your computer nowadays. They're soooo much faster. If you're on a budget, one thing you can consider is having one of each. Get a smaller SSD to run all of your programs off, and a bigger traditional hard drive for storage. Obviously you'd need to make sure you've got 2 slots, and it'd still be significantly more than just the single big hard drive.

That's not a bad idea for a laptop with only one HD slot but for a desktop not so much.

For a start it would cost you £80 for the equivalent 120GB SSD + 1TB 7,200rpm HDD (the hybrid thing is 5.400rpm) against £103 (I could have sworn it was £117 this afternoon).
For the same price you could get a 240GB SSD + 1TB HD.
Also the Hybrid uses the same SATA interface so could (depending on use) cause hiccups in accessing data.
