Funny, isn't it, how the beeb casually rounds Wirtz down to being a hundred million pound player? Instead of referring to him — as Jack relentlessly was in the media and on the BBC — as the record transfer-fee player in English football. He's not a fucking hundred million pound player. He's well above it. It's casual little details like this that I now take note of.
By the end of the season they’ll have it rounded down to about £60 million tops ..

Shame lack in concentration for about 5 mins there from Northern Ireland defence and keeper. We move on to the next one

Hard to get your head around these groups with just 4 teams in them

NI have a play off guaranteed don’t they from their nations league campaign

Most of ours subbed off round about the sixty-minute mark (Aké, Reijnders, Doku), or brought on late (Rodri, seventy minutes or thereabouts). Just fine by me.
(Kev as per usual required to play virtually a full match, despite the fact that Belgium were winning it at a canter. Anyway, it's no longer our problem, thankfully).

Spain showing how to get it done against Turkey by playing smart incisive football.

Meanwhile Tuchel is talking about England adopting long throws

I have a feeling in 12 months time it will all start to come out that the England performances will be as much down to the egos and cliques that have developed in that dressing room as much as the deficiencies of the coach.

Southgate for all his flaws, held that dressing room together. He brought the majority of the those lads through as youngsters into that team and they had respect for him as a sort of football father figure.

Now he is gone, the egos are off the leash and in classic England NT fashion they will treat any manager like a supply teacher and bring down any reputation that was once there. Just like the golden generation in the 2000s/10s.

The problem this England team has now is the bulk part of that team are no longer the young promising kids coming though. The bulk of them are £200-£400k a week earners, CL and league title winners.

Egos galore in an era where everyone wants to be the main character.

To be fair, Tuchel is a bellend. Such a bad choice, he has a history of pissing off everyone where ever he goes. If you want team harmony, he's the last guy you'd hire.

They need 8 of the following 11 to finish top 2 in their groups to guarantee a play off spot (I think) - The teams above them are: Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, England, Norway, Wales, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden and North Macedonia.

Most Spanish players are on huge money. The egos of Barca's and Madrid's players are quite big as well. Also, imo, the English players are of similar quality.

But England lack a specific style of play, the chemistry isn't quite there. In contrast, Spain have a style of play built around possession, short passes, technique, high pressing. Also, their players are tactically very well prepared.

Generally, they have much better managers. In the PL alone, there are more Spanish than English managers. Why? Because modern football has been influenced much more by Cruyff, Pep and the likes than by British managers. Ferguson didn't impress with any tactical innovations. In terms of deep understanding of the game, British managers have been off the pace for decades now.

Donnarumma lucky there. Didn't show much strength in that situation
