I don't think this is the same at all. Rodri showed no interest in going for that ball. That pass was destined for Mbappe and he ran to get it. I don't think a last ditch tackle should be deemed intentionally playing the ball.
It isn’t, I’m sure. It’s classed as the offside player interfering with play but, as always, some bullshit will be rolled out.

Barmy rule, Garcia only tries to cut out the through ball because Mbappe is stood in front of him, offside.

There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from a goal kick, a corner kick, or a throw-in. It is also not an offence if the ball was last deliberately played by an opponent (except for a deliberate save). In this context, according to the IFAB, "A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area)."[1]

This is the key one. The interpretation is that Garcia deliberately played the ball, but surely that is a pass when under control, not attempting to cut out a pass to an offside player. This is the reason it was allowed when Rodri received the ball last season

Exactly, there is no way that's a deliberate touch.

It's an attempt to cut the ball out but deliberate has to mean the defender has control.

^ Our goal against Villa back in January. That is a deliberate attempt to play the ball, defender has it under control and has his pass cut out.

^ That just isn't enough to say Mbappe isn't offside. Garcia is at full stretch trying to cut the ball out to an offside player.

Huge difference between the 2.

You believed the idiots taking your course ?
Mate it’s not a point of believing them. They’re FA coaches. It’s the rule. It counts as a new phase of play because he hasn’t made a move towards the ball so it’s a new phase. And they were idiots btw
