France State TV is reporting that Interpol, the International Police Agency, are investigating the Arsenal/Newcastle draw from the weekend, centering in on odd betting patterns. The alleged investigation includes Arsenal winger Tomas Rosicky, whose foul was allegedly the cause of the second Newcastle penalty. Also under investigation is referee Phil Dowd. Arsenal will allegedly make a statement on this tomorrow. For more info, see the original French report ( http://tele.premiere.fr/Zapster/Un-incr ... judiciaire). Also, Gabriele Marcotti’s twitter feed has more information on this breaking story. (@Marcotti on Twitter).

lol, wenger is so butthurt hes having his frog buddies investigate his own team. thats just.. wow.

also, what do they mean by "odd betting patterns"? of course alot of people betted money on Newcastle. theres two teams, you either bet on one or the other.

Absolute drivel. French journalist spouting his mouth off.
Nothing in it at all. Rosicky is just shit and Dowd not much better.

No it's not that simple. Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that millions of dollars were staked in the Far East against an Arsenal win at half-time. That would certainly arouse suspicions and I'd guess that's what has happened here. Or alternatively a lot of money went on a Newcastle penalty.

People are so naive if they think this sort of thing doesn't happen. Why do you think Clattenburg was suspended? And why did another well-known referee retire early, with another two removed from the front-line after the PL received a dossier detailing their activities?

I'm absolutely certain this kind of thing goes on, however I doubt it went on in the Newcastle V Arsenal game. If you take a look at @marcotti and recent tweets it essentially looks like a French TV show went out on a limb over unproven rumours/comments, reported them as pretty much fact to the entire French nation and now realise it's a load of shite. If there aren't legal ramifications from both clubs, Phil Dowd, Rosicky and the English Premier League over this I'd be astounded.

Apparently the odds on the Newcastle comeback at half time were 362/1

There would have had to be so many people involved for Arsenal to be winning so heavily at half time (presumably half the scam so that the odds on a comeback would be so high) and for Newcastle to produce that turn around. The idea that Dowd and Rosicky could sort that out is ludicrous, you'd need several players on both sides to be in on it, surely? The whole thing seems very unlikely at best.

we heard it was 490/1
on match of the day i think they said 1000/1

anyway - re arsenal, i put this in an earlier thread, but perhaps it's more relevant here....

... it's hilarious, all this moaning from arse - fabregas last week saying the ref had been bribed; sagna - going on about the ref's response; wilshere 'inconsistent ref's are killing the game'; etc...

sagna - shut the f... up!! 2 blatant penalties and you're questioning the ref you stupid idiot - think yourself lucky you didn't get a yellow card for either being such a prick as to question the decision, or for persistently taking to the pitch looking like an exceptionally ugly woman with a wierd idea in hair design.
wilshere - look a bit closer to home at your team's own inconsistencies, and try to live up to your false reputation, you hyped up spoilt brat average footballer. i can't wait to see you controlling the midfield for England on Wednesday night - some chance of that, I bet! Child.
abu diaby - toughen up you 6'3'' fairy and get back in barton's face - it's a man's game you big bambi legged baby. if you haven't got the stomach for it any more, do one!
fabregas - f... off to barcelona reserves where you truly belong and don't darken our beautiful league again

sacre bleu!

superb

At those odds, I would put 10 down easily. It's not a lot of money and on the crazy chance Newcastle comes back. . . well. . . yeah.
