Interview with Mike Lester

Just for 75/76 IIRC, the following season we had the Umbro diamonds down the sleeves but still with the white collar and "V" insert.
SO in the League Cup Final we wore shirts with pin holes in them - never knew that.
His shirt looks a bit shiny too.

Anyone on here remember 70s player Mike Lester?

I spoke to Mike at the weekend, a boyhood City fan who spoke fondly about his debut at Maine Road following his move from Oldham, where he started his career.

Only made 3 appearances for City, but his career highlights included his first game at Maine Road, playing with Colin Bell, and going to Juventus with City in the UEFA Cup.

Brilliant stuff, one of my first games was one of Mike's few appearance, either Stoke or QPR at home around 76-77 I think, he came on as sub. So one player I always have memories for, however limited his City career was. Never realised he didn't come through the ranks. Great read

For the Final we had the City of Manchester coat of arms on the shirt but the overall design looked the same.

The "retro" versions of that kit never seem to have the holes in them, presumably the holes were a short-lived experiment by Umbro.

Was the actual shirt shiny? I thought the first shiny shirts we had were in 1979/80 (and pretty horrible material it was too).
For me the 77/78 non-shiny umbro diamond kit - with solid rather than hollow diamonds was the best!

No, I don't recall it being shiny, that may just be a trick of the light in that photo.
