Introducing The Citizens Trust - Manchester City Supporters' Union

Although…. I tend to agree with you about Citizens and Cityzens but surprisingly Cityzens was also used over 100 years ago to refer to the club or it’s fans (as this cartoon shows):

Personally I prefer Blues anyway.
That was just a ‘play’ on words though Gary (as the break in the wording suggests).
Always been Citizens officially, as that is what we are. The Citizens of Manchester. It’s just City for me!

There were other uses of Cityzens not simply that cartoon. That’s just an example. But whether it’s Citizens or Cityzens it’s never been something most fans have used when talking. There was also the Cityzen (or was it Citizen?) mag produced by the supporters club back in late 80s. So I guess it does get used from time to time.

Good luck though to the Citizens Trust. Anything that represents fans is worth having and developing.

Looks like Birmingham City fans got there first in 2012!

Dear Citizens Trust,

Will there be an agenda or matters or order of discussions, issued or circulated before the zoom meeting tomorrow??

I know you have stated that it’s up to the members to decide, what matters to them??

But obviously, there must be some administrative and legal issues, that will need to be raised or addressed at the meeting, for the trust to go forward with??

As well as what matters to the members??

Thanks,

:0)

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner - it has been a busy day at work, and preparing for the meeting earlier tonight.

If you were able to attend the meeting I may be covering the same ground, in which case, sorry for the duplication. That said, one of the main lessons that we were keen to learn from with the previous attempt to launch a trust back in 2006, was the need to launch in a fully operational manner.

Working with the Football Supporters Association and other colleagues in different fanbases, we have made sure that we have established all the necessary administrative and legal requirements. This means that The Citizens Trust has been established as a Community Benefit Society in accordance with the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act (2014), and that we are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. Our constitution, which was based upon a model endorsed by the FSA, can be found on the website along with other policies.

In practice, the next main step from an administrative perspective is to hold our AGM and inaugural elections. As per our constitution, this must take place within six months from the end of our financial year (which is the 30 June). We will also be looking to establish the committees which will guide much of the trust's actual work.

Thanks to all those who attended tonight, was great to finally get things moving and be able to share the information we received from the survey results. Hopefully it's answered some of your questions as well.

For those that couldn't attend we hope to have some minutes out as soon as possible.
I was at a family event earlier.
What was the outcome?
I joined and donated but I am still not sure what the aims and objectives of the trust are.

Attended what? I’m a member and heard nothing.

Sorry, I registered for the meeting but then completely forgot about it. Will try and do better in the future!

Alex,

Thank you for the update on this matter :0)

At the meeting, it was mentioned that the Trust was looking to establish 5 ? Committee’s to deal with some of the issues that have been identified by the Trust members and Interim Board members?

Are you able to provide a list of what these committees are looking at ? And are referenced as ?

Thanks again and thanks for the meeting yesterday and the input and explanations given by all the Interim Board members, at the meeting about the Trust, to date and for its future purpose.

Well down to all involved. When I did eventually get on, I am a technophobe, I thought the interim board members spoke very well, had done an insurmountable amount of prep work already and are to be commended for it. I recognise also that in many organisations in particular like this one, it will sometimes feel like a thankless task. Keep on doing what you’re doing, we will get there. Thank you for all your efforts and works so far.

Members, please check your inboxes.

We've just sent out an email including:

  • Feedback from our first meeting with the Club last Thursday
  • Pre-registration for our upcoming project groups: Membership, Finance & Fundraising and Community
