My nieces iPhone is on but she can get into it it won't swipe on the bottom and won't swipe at the top to turn it off

At the top is a symbol we haven't seen before

Looks like it has locked its self

Any help would be appreciate

Re: iPhone help

Try holding the top button and the bottom button at the same time until it switches off. That should sort it.

Do a hard reset. Press power button and central select button together and hold till it turns off.

Re: iPhone help

Haha yea. It usually sorts it out for me.

The little symbol is the landscape/portrait lock. It stops the screw from turning as you tilt the phone.

Re: iPhone help

Portrait mode is active.

"This can be turned on and off by double clicking home so that your open apps are displayed then swiping these icons to the right until your iPod controls appear, you should see an icon with a circular arrow. This icon locks your screen rotation."

Took this from <a class="postlink" href="http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/54820/What+is+the+lock+symbol+with+a+circle-arrow+around+it" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/5482 ... +around+it</a>
