I went to the o2 store today and the guy I spoke to knew the square root of fuck all, he told me to attempt everything I'd already tried and failed with, so he recomended to go to the apple store.
Went into the one in the arndale this afternoon. Very helpful indeed, I was unaware you needed an appointment but a nice chap sat down with me and did everything he could to resolve the problem. It was in fact a problem with the phone.
He gave me a brand new one there and then, in exchange for the damaged one.
