I shed no tears. I thank him for his one good season and wish him well. I hope he re discovers his form and goes on to be the footballer we hoped he would become. But at the end of the day, the young multi- millionaire will be ok.

The crying and excess of sentiment in here reminds of when Princess Di died to be honest.

Rose tinted also.

finally a post which i agree with :)
thanks for the one good season
Your learning then ;-)

Totally. Now that we're the richest club in the world and can blow anyone out of the water for any player we want, why should we be even remotely sentimental about someone who's been at City since he's 13 years old and has played countless first team performances. Fuck that. In fact, lets shut the academy down. We don't fucking need it. Academies are for the poor no mark clubs like Villa and Neverton who will never have our wealth and the ability to pop into Europe and by the best of the best, cream of the crop, etc.

Does this mean we don't consider Villa as a main threat then as our policy is not to sell our assets to title competing teams?

That's never been our policy, afaik.

It's just how some people saw us refusing to bend over for Spurs and Bellamy.

I'd rather think we treat people exactly as they treat us.

No problem with this policy or none policy!

'Arry can try and manipulate the media to get something for nowt but Shay's situation will show how we perceive our major threats. Do you actually believe that he will go to the Arse or Rags if that was the options available or would he go on loan to the Green Hoops?

^ This! It's got to be wasting resources. Better instead to invest money in better scouting.

Re: The end of Superman...

You really all are a bunch of absolute muppets. Generalisation, vagueness, ambiguity. Talk about an absolute load of shite.

How many full games did Ireland play last season? How many games did he start under Mancini? How many games did he come off the bench? What type of games were they? What different positions did we play him? How many of those appearances did he play in his best position?

These are questions some of you should ask yourself before spouting out some general shite about Ireland has had one good season, thanks for the one great season stevie. No one is doubting last season he didnt perform as well as the season before. However, if some of you think it's because of a sudden loss of ability and not down to other contextual reasons, then you clearly know nothing about football. I back Mancini. We move on. It's a fresh start for Ireland. But make no mistake, there is no doubt if he plays regularly, in a position which suits him, which he likely will at Villa, then he will absolutely rediscover the form he showed during the great season with us. I accept there are reasons why he may no longer fit into our plans. Thats a fair argument. But the shite coming from some of you about good riddance, over rated etc, is clear proof you have not watched Ireland play for City in the flesh at all.

Add to that, where are you people in relation to SWP? I don't recall him having recently during last season, got anywhere near the form he showed before moving to Chelsea. Should we sell him?

Best move for the club and the player. It's clear he's not in the right place mentally at the moment and his opportunities here would be limited. Hopefully he can build his confidence at Villa.
Agreed totally much as I loved Superman and it's a shame to see an academy product go I would ask this simple question before the start of 08-09 Ireland was on his way to Sunderland Hughes stopped the deal how many thought why??? quite a lot of blues I knew questioned the wisdom as Ireland was either brilliant or utter dross...then he had THAT season and was rightly player of the year come last season the old Ireland was back it was obvious something wasn't right even when he played in his favourite position he looked well off the pace. What we have got in Milner is a more consistant player who even when he has an off day still puts in a decent shift for the team despite paying over the odds we have got the better player IMO.

What are your thoughts on him Billy?

Not sure you have made them clear you see.

Joined Villa talk yet? ;-)

No one would have been happier than I if he had gone on to greatness with us, I even attended each game with lucky superman y fronts that were not comfy in homage to him.

But things happen, we move on and ad a grown bloke, I see no benefit in getting all teary. But then again, I haven't just lost my celeb mate have I.

I suspect it's more to do with us identifying Milner as an important addition that wasn't likely to come off without Ireland going the other way.

im gutted, this IMO is a big mistake and will come back to bite us, only this time last year ushited and arsenal were after him now we've got about the equivalent of £2m for him.

He WILL find his form back, i can guarantee that and it will be hard to watch him playing for Villa when he does. Just like the Dunne deal i genuinely feel this is a mistake, the player of the year curse has struck again!

other than that i think Milner is a great signing and become (imo again) our steven gerrard driving us on through midfield.

is he going to replace Barry in the team do you think? or de jong?

I'm gutted that Ireland has gone , he was quality in my eyes ......

i'm just hoping that Milner proves an adequate replacement , because i've never really rated him as anything that special ...... i hope i've got him wrong ....... but i wasn't wrong about Gareth Barry on here , when so many were!

Re: The end of Superman...

Also Billy, academies are there for producing superstar players on the cheap that make the grade in the longrun. Not to help the fans form emotional attachments to players.

Re: The end of Superman...

He definitely needed a move to freshen things up and to get his head straight. Unplayable on his day, unfortunately they were few and far between. Good luck Stevie, thanks for everything. It's not right seeing you in claret and blue

well, I hate seeing the 'over-rated' shite comments too... but there's no reason to start stupid jibes about seeing him in the flesh.

if we're being pedantic about the 'contextual reasons', saying he only lost form under Mancini amounts to a rewriting of history. He was out of favour under MH as well. It does, unfortunately, come down to him only being happy in the number 10 slot. Attacking creative midfield players tend to develop the ability to fill any one of 4 positions. They can either cut it in the centre, at a pinch, or they can make the play from a wide position. Often, they can do it all. It's not unreasonable to expect him to do the same as all the others. He certainly had the technical skills and physical ability to do so. Where I do have sympathy for him, is that he was asked to overcome these challenges at a time of great instability and change at the club.

Add to that, where are you people in relation to SWP? I don't recall him having recently during last season, got anywhere near the form he showed before moving to Chelsea. Should we sell him?

In an ideal world, I'd be tempted. He's been a big disappoinment to me over the last year and a bit. He lacks any sort of craft or intelligence to his game, which is pretty shocking for a 29 year old. I don't buy the 'city through and through' bit, either.

It's difficult however, he's in his last year so will almost certainly block the move to go on a Bosman. He will do a job for us, he does at least try pretty hard. So it's reasonable to stick with him this year, we've made more than enough changes for one year.

My 4,500 loyalty points beg to differ that I have not seen him in person. 24 years I have been going flower. Anytime someone states an opinion you disagree with, you question how long they have supported city and if they go or not. Somethings not right in that. Smells raggy though you clearly aren't one.

Ps zaba was often played out of position as was Milner last season. In modern football, it is expected and one cannot just play in ones favoured position. Look at Gerard, he even played right back in a couple of games last season.

Re: The end of Superman...

This is the right move for him to make at the moment. His form for us for the past two seasons has been not of been the standard required to help City kick on from the level that where we at. right now Mark Hughes could not get him performing on a consistant basis. Whilst Milner is an equal in terms of ability he is a far better week in week out performer.

Re: The end of Superman...

Absolutley gutted that Stevies leaving. 8 Million for an outstanding talent is disgusting. We are getting raped. He worth at least 15 mill in todays market. Yes he's struggled to find some form but hes a fantastic player and I really hope he does well at Villa.

Re: The end of Superman...

All this about Ireland only having one good season ....... how many 'good seasons' has Milner had?

One?

Two ..... at a push!

Absolutely right ......

no way , no way at all , is Stephen Ireland £16 million worse a player than James Milner!!
