Ireland told he's unlikely to be included in 25 squad

City wouldnt say "hey stevie, you're unlikely to be in the squad of 25"

They would either say you are or you are'nt.

On official site!

Not the signs of a player moving imo.

Also from the games we have played in US, Ireland has looked well sharp.

i dont understand why anyone is listening to these daft rumours... its clear to see we dont have a huge squad like everyone keeps saying, the only players that will leave will be fringe players and youngsters that havent made the grade:

GK: Hart, Given, Taylor
RB: Richards, Zabaleta
CB: Kolo, Kompany, Lescott, Boateng
LB: Kolarov, Bridge
DM: Yaya, DeJong, Barry, Vieira
AM: Silva, Ireland
RW: Milner, SWP
LW: Johnson, Bellamy
ST: Tevez, Torres, Adebayor, Balotelli

thats a 25 man squad, you may have variations on who may go and theres 3 players there we havnt even acquired so there is tonnes of room left and only fringe players will leave like Santa Cruz, Onuoha and Garrido... ive left M. Johnson out becuase he wont be fit by christmas and knowing his look with injuries will be out for another season

Press speculation, just the latest thing for them to talk about us.

Maybe Bobby is keeping some of the players guessing, to see how they react, both on and off the field. So far, we've had Mica and Stevie both saying they want to fight for their places at City, and Bellers too, earlier on in the year. Nedum, went in the opposite direction, maybe played his hand too early. Smart man management by Bobby, I think.

Does this read like a ringing endorsement from the manager?

Only on Friday, he stressed his desire to work hard to get in to Mancini's team.
Unfortunately, Ireland, according to those at City who know him, also tends to be insecure, retreating in to his shell when things go against him. It is this that now places a dark cloud over his City future.
Mancini said: 'I have to cut my squad down to 25 and I have more than 30 so it's normal that someone will have to miss out but right now I don't know who it will be. I have not decided anything about Stephen. He's been no problem on the tour.
'Yes of course he could still have a future. I don't know how it's possible for him to think otherwise. It is up to him to prove himself to me.
'I don't know yet if I would accept an offer for Stephen. Certainly there will have to be some decisions taken.'
Such is Ireland's natural talent that clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton have looked at him over the last 18 months.
But it is perhaps indicative of Ireland's mixed form last season that the only contact that has come to City so far this summer has been from Turkish team Galatasaray.

This may sound stupid but how can he leave with a city tattoo covering his back, don't judge him
from his last season and as a clever fat man once said form is temporary, class is permanent.

I have trouble with believing that anyone at the club would say this, because if a team thats interested in him knows we aren't picking him for our 25 man squad his value drops even further.

OK so a very long winded explanation as to why Ireland will be probably be staying and the 25 man squad is a non issue for us really....

To be sold :

Jo - £3 - £5 million ?
Robinho - £18 - £20 Million ?
RSC - £3 - £5 million ?
Caicedo - £3 - £4 million ?
Garrido - £1 - £2 million ?
Logan - 500k ?
Etuhu - £1 million ?

These are not in doubt they are over 21 and wont be allocated squad numbers no doubt at all they are history at city.

Has been suggested they could be sold :

Nedum (Wants to leave fallen out with manager, still very useful to have around and cover injuries, suspensions) Possible.

Bellamy (One year left on his contract, 31, fallen out with manager, would only be sold if we sign another forward, Very high risk letting him leave especially to a competeting side in the league, guranteed 10 - 15 goals and a similar number of assists which will be hard to replace) Possible.

Given (HIGH RISK, Very very unlikely)

Ireland (Only leaves us with one creative midfielder = unlikely ?)

Squad of 25 (Note its assumes we will sign Balotelli & Milner as it seems obvious we will) :

Team 1 :

--------------Hart-------------

Boatang-K Toure-Kompany-Koralov

Milner--De Jong--Y Toure--Silva

-------------Tevez-------------

--------------Ade--------------

Subs : Given-Lescott-Bridge-Barry-Ireland-A Johnson-Balotelli.

Team 2 :

-------------Given-------------

Zabs---Richards-Lescott--Bridge

SWP----Barry-Ireland--A Johnson

------Balotelli------Bellamy-----

Subs : Hart-Kompany-Koralov-De Jong-Milner-Tevez-Ade

Cover :

Taylor, Nedum, Viera

Qualify as "Home Grown" - 8 required of English or Welsh FA registration OR registered to a welsh or english club for 3 years under the age of 21 :

Given
Richards
Lescott
Bridge
SWP
Barry
A Johnson
Ireland
Bellamy
Nedum
Milner
Hart
Taylor

Based on our predicted 25 man squad for next season we actually have 13 of the 25 man pro squad who qualify as homegrown, so no problems at all.

Likely Loans / Supplemental youth team developement squad / Reserves :

Weiss, Boyata, Ibrahim, M Johnson, Vidal, Cunningham, Gonzales, Nimely, Nielsen (AL)

AL = Already Loaned

Most of these could be registered and play in addition to the 25 as they are under 21 and english OR registered to play for city for 3 years under age of 21.

M Johnson, is one exception and is likely to be loaned out next season anyway, as are a number of our other youngsters to get experience, or in the case of Johnson regain fitness. Gonzales is the other exception to this rule = loan or not registered to play for first team.

The reality is that we only have 7 players over 21 players that must be shed IMO (and only 5 of those you could class as pro and problamatic the other 2 are youth team developed players on short contracts and low wages) none of which made any contribution to our first team last season, the balance are youth / developement players under 21 which are not effected by the new rules OR will go out on loan (M Johnson, Gonzales) and OR not be registered to play for citys first team next season.

In summary assuming Milner and Balotelli sign in addition to our other new recruits Ireland is still clearily going to get games at city in europe and the cups and as cover on the bench, althrough he obviously wont be anything like first choice at this stage.

Still unless we sign another creative midfield player in addition to the ones we already have or are likely to sign I cant see him being sold at this stage. He will make the cut, the manager has said he wants him to stay and Ireland has said he wants to stay until January 2011 at the very least.

All this talk of fire sales and valuable squad members being given away or moved on is bollocks IMO. If you look at our squad its obvious who will be leaving and why, Mancini has said we need 2 teams to compete in 4 competetions, 2 quality players in every position so its not hard to work out what our 25 man squad will look like.
