Ireland v England?

I don't think they'll be anything like that again.

Look at the game when England went to Northern Ireland relatively trouble free
Totally different situation. Supporters of Northern Ireland are by definition supporters of the British Union. It's like Glasgow Rangers, they're prouder of the Queen and the Empire than almost anyone else

I wouldn't agree with that but understand what you are trying to say!

No trouble in Belfast with the small amount of England fans who travelled. Republicans (no doubt upset at NI beating England) did stone supporters cars on the Westlink and Markets.

By the way NI play in Dublin 3 times before the proposed June 8 date in the Celtic Cup v Scotland, the Beggars and Wales. Should be interesting!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that.

before the last game in dublin, we played the rags at maine road on the saturday. for some reason i was in the main stand. at half time i was having a pint (although only 15) and got talking to this bloke. he was a big fucker but seemed really respectable. he told me where not to go after the derby as it was going to get nasty. then he told me that this was just his warm up before he went to dublin for england. he told me there would be carnage over there like i'd never have seen. like i say though, he was a proper nice bloke and came across like he was a headmaster or something.

I'm not an expert on English-Irish relations, but most of my family are Irish and I go over there every year, and I think they're mellowing towards us in terms of their feelings.

In fact when I went over in the summer and got chatting about the world cup, quite a lot of the Irish had wanted us to do well.

I was wearing an England t-shirt one night and this bloke came up to me and said :'Ten or fifteen years ago you'd have been killed for wearing that round here, it's a good job a lot less people are living in the past now.'

It's mellowed a bit. There's less of the wanting to kill you all and more amusement at the failings of England. Like in WC's and such.

But the whole "a lot of Irish had wanted us to do well"..unless it was against France, then I doubt it. Where would the fun in that be?

i dont see the point of having a friendly with them. might as well play stockport county they would give us a better game.
