Give the guy a fucking a break. he has been our best player so far...He is only human

Totally agree with you. Can't believe some of the shit people come out with, I really can't sometimes.

I think his performances before Christmas set such a high standard people are now getting confused and saying he's now playing shit and underperforming when the reality is he has been putting in average to good games more recently. It's unfair to compare his earlier form and now say he's shit, he missed a few weeks just after Christmas due to suspension and then the cancelled Portsmouth game put his return even further back. I know he is feels he has more to give and will get better next season and he is determined to become our player of this season. My own opinion is that he is frustrated with his current situation regarding his contract and probably feels he is being played a little with the negotiating or lack of it by those that are involved. Having said that I know that wouldn't affect his on field contribution to the cause, I think it's just more a case of him not reaching the standards set before Christmas but still performing adequately enough. I haven't seen todays game so it would be unfair of me to comment on his performance.

Since the turn of the year i think he's been pretty poor apart from the odd game, his passing is nowhere near as good as it was in the first half of the season and hopefully we'll see him getting back to the top of his game sooner rather than later

This.

I love Stevie, but he may have left his cape in Schalke...

Problem is with some folk that the slightest variation beneath brilliant, which he was near achieving before Christmas, and they're down the throat. He is still the best overall player we have, even on an off day. It would be a ramshackle team to start if the Emerald Prince was not in.

Im not slagging him because he has been very good all season. However today was not an average to good performance from him,he was poor.

I didn't even realize that he hasn't scored since Dec. 26th 2008 until the commentators pointed it out.

i did, he's in my fantasy team.

He didn't play in the first 2 games in January due to suspension so only returned on the 28th against Newcastle, so almost the whole month of January without kicking a ball. Bit unfair of the commentator to make out its been ages, he scored a cracking goal in Copenhagen where In the whole month of February our only other goal scorers have been Onohua in the same game and Bellamy in all other games. That says more about the rest of the team than it does about just Stephen Ireland.
