Villa outcast Stephen Ireland is ready to end his international exile as he seeks a January move to Merseyside.

The midfielder, who was an £8m makeweight in James Milner¹s big money move to Eastlands, is desperate to end his Villa misery.

Villa boss, Gerard Houllier, will listen to offers for the 24-year-old as he looks to rebuild a Villa side lying four points above the relegation zone.

Ireland retired from international football in 2007 after falsely claiming his grandmother had died.

He claimed he would not return to the international team but after being frozen out at Villa, he looks to have changed his mind.

Giovanni Trapattoni has tried to tempt him out of retirement previously and Ireland told friends: “I am seriously thinking of calling Trap in the next few weeks and hopefully can work my way back into his plans.

“If I can¹t get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.”

The midfielder watched the 2-1 win over local rivals West Brom from the stands after failing to make the Villa squad and will be available for around £4m as Houllier looks to bolster his struggling squad.

I bet Villa fans are loving this.

Poor guy, can't help but feel sorry for him despite all the shit things he said about the club.

Villa fans will be more than happy if he got sold sooner rather than later.
Take advantage of his country to arrange a move from his club. he is a disgusting person.

his attitude are even worse than Tevez.

Houllier just dropped both Dunne and Ireland in the West Brom match and Bravo! Villa back to win again!

Still has great potential as a player.

But I hope he hasn't really said he wants to play for Ireland again "just to be in the shop window". If that's his motivation, Trap shouldn't let him back. What's the point? As soon as he gets a move to another a club, another grandma will cark it.

So he wants to do it for all the right reasons then?!!!

This lad really needs to start engaging his miniscule brain before opening his mouth a bit more often. Does he really think the explanation he's given will endear him to anyone within the Irish setup? If I was Trapattoni, I'd tell him to fuck off. And I imagine 100% of Irish supporters would do so as well after this, as I suspect these comments may have just used up the last tiny bit of empathy they had for his situation.

No, he is finished.

Probably right there, i remember being at Hamburg when he scored in the first minute, i thought it was a welcome to ireland Europe moment, how wrong was i, shame really

His career has gone down hill very quickly. It just shows if your attitude is not right and you act like a nutter things can go badly pretty quickly.

He has so much money though I am sure he doesnt care he certainly acts like it anyway.

Anyway hes one of ours so he has my best wishes I have no problem with him at all. It just shows Mancini was right once again - totally the right move to get rid.

Oh ya poor lad.

When he "retired" from international football, and let rumours, ridiculous rumours go around and around, he wasn't bothered.
He eventually said that they were ridiculous and not true, just after the damage was done.
The lengths that people went to try and get him back, he turned his back and had more interest in in being a star with City and all that money for his cars..etc.

There was always, just like Best, going to be a point where after he turned his back, he changed his mind when things were going badly for him, and just like George Best was told, thanks but no thanks, we don't need you.

And what a shocking attitude he has,

“If I can't get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.”

I mean how deidicated to the cause he is. We're not an all star team, we don't have a lot of super stars, what we have are lads who will die in their boots and do their best to the final whistle, and they are lead by the likes of Given and Dunne and co, by both outstanding performances and grit and hard work.

He wont give 100% and therefore he's useless to us. This team isn't good enough to carry players. Not more so like we're doing now.
Never mind his poor form.

He wants to come back? It's too late Stevie lad. It's much too late for that.

Not up to you though is it. Not unless you've suddenly become the Ireland manager and not told anyone.

Oh is it my turn to be Irishmacca is it? How about I edit your post?

If he comes back he comes back. Ireland the team cant afford not to have a player who on his day can be a class act not to have in there squad. When you look and see the likes of Green , Whelan and Andrews all starting is just madness none of those should be near the squad. Should in a ideal world be replace with McCarthy , Ireland , Clark at Villa and even if he get fit Meyler these are the players for the future that will bring Ireland the team on.
As for Stevie I just think under a better manager i.e O Neill he would of progessed on a bit. Houillier has ruined Villa he has had a fallen out with many players and when players question his training it makes you wonder what he is about and if he is up to managing in England. I know a couple of Villa fans and they are fucking going mad with him in charge yes they have a lot of young players but they have dropped away so much they think he wont last the season.

I'd have him back at City in a shot. I still think the lad has the ability to be every bit as good as Silva. Together they could have been phenomenal.

The fact that Mancini couldn't "man-manage" Ireland and Robinho was a major disappointment for me. Maybe it's too much to ask but I think a truely great manager could have kept the two most skilful players we've had in ages at the club and had them fired up game after game. I think a lot of poeple forget just how good Ireland was and how good his attitude was ... something was allowed to get f*ed up it you ask me. Same with Robinho - to an extent.

(Was it all to do with Tevez joining and our style of play becoming so haphazard due to his inability to lookup yet amazing ability to score regularly? If so again I think Mancini should have fixed this... we are still playing to the tune of Tevez which will never make us consistent)

Anyhoot, I hope Ireland leaves Villa and goes to a team with a manager that encourages his players to at least pass to the kid. I've watched Villa a few times this year and they simply can't spot a run or make a decent pass. O'Neill look like a real genius to ever have had them playing fluidly.

I hope he doesn't go back to international football until his club football is sorted out. The Irish supporters are mostly reds of one fasion or another so are naturally stupified and led like sheep by the media. They'll turn on Ireland unless he's amazing day 1 and if he's not sorted at club football I doubt he'd have the confidence to be any much good for Ireland.

Sorry, but I think that's a barmy statement. Silva is a genuine world class player who has produced the goods for several seasons already. Ireland is an above average player who produced the goods for half a season. The fact is that Ireland never was & never will be a great player. Nothing personal against him, that's just the way it is.
