Irish Current Affairs

So, the british army "invade" an area of a british city to deliberately intern (imprison without evidence/proof) people and as a result 10 innocent people are killed. And you take it that Eamo is justifying terrorism by suggesting there be an amnesty (for civilians AND the army) in order to get to the real Truth????

I dont know where you live, but if its say, Manchester....can you try and imagine this happening where you live....and i mean really, genuinely imagine the scenario....armed soldiers and tanks speeding through your estate, raiding houses to imprison "suspects" with no evidence and whilst they are doing it, over the space of 3 days, the kill 10 innocent people....a mum of eight, a priest......
Boris issued an unreserved apology to the families involved on behalf of the British government, this evening.
You could argue the toss on what his motives are (Amnesty), but regardless it is the right thing to do and is most welcomed by those involved.
Credit where it’s due.

After watching Nolan Live tonight, seems I’m giving Boris more credit than he’s due.
It was a written statement referring to him in the third person as The Prime Minister and no representation in NI at all including no comment from the NIO.

Documentary about Ballymurphy killings tonight at 11.00 pm, channel 4.
Christ that made grim viewing.
Coupled with what I watched on Nolan Live that had two family members on it, it made for very sobering viewing tonight.

And Geoffrey Donaldson coming out with guff in his campaign to lead the DUP tonight basically saying they will take down the MLA and stop all north south body cooperation, is really depressing.

I've not seen anything on what was said/written other than it being in a phone call.

It really needs to be made in the House of Commons.

Going to try to catch up today.

Just watched the channel 4 documentary, hadn’t realised it had been on before.

I didn’t know a great deal about it before this week but I am absolutely disgusted by what happened. My heart breaks for those people who suffered so much.

It’s difficult to comprehend.

Doug Beattie new leader of Ulster Unionist party. I have followed Doug online for quite a while. Fingers crossed he's open to helping all the people of Northern Ireland and priorities are every day things such as health, education, poverty, housing, jobs, etc

Watched the first in the new BBC documentary ‘The Road to Partition’ last night.
I thought it was very objective and from my point of view, good to see the story told from a perspective other than the Irish one I’ve been fed all my life.

Similar to recent RTE offerings, the narrative has become, as I said, much more objective and although emphasis may be different on certain points, I really thought it was a fair assessment.

The British government don’t come out of it looking good but nobody does really. De Valera looks every bit as intransigent as Craig in the North. The bit that surprised me, as it’s not a perspective I had considered before, is that Carson considered the partition of the country a defeat as his unionism was about keeping the whole of Ireland tied in some way to the crown.
Craig was a pragmatist and sacrificed unionists in border counties and further south to ensure a greater majority that he could manage into the future. That’s why only six counties were taken.

Really interesting and I’m recording the rest of the series.

Anyone else see it?

Thankfully the Irish know enough to keep this far right bag of hate out of their mainstream politics. How can anyone share her views? I am willing to bet she doesn't know any happy people either.

Her and John Waters are two cheeks of the same arse. She’s poison.
Conspiracy theorists. She gets less than 2% of the vote in her own constituency if she even gets a nomination in the first place.

She was instrumental in the hounding of a gay Garda officer, who eventually took his own life. She really is a hateful bitch.

That’s just my opinion.
