My understanding is that the UK Government are still committed to giving the GAA the same amount of money that was on the table when Windsor Park and Ravenhill were renovated, but the costs of building a new ground to UEFA specifications would be far higher than building a groundnsuitable for County Antrim board (hospitality, media etc etc).
The reason it wasn't built initially was due to the local residents objecting and health and safety issues as all fans would be having to leave onto the Andersonstown Road, whereas both Ravenhill and Windsor have three or more exits from the ground.
I'm not in the slightest concerned about one game in the Euro's not being played in Belfast as I feel the cost far exceeds any benefit (even if it was a game between two countries with large travelling fanbases, it would only host one football game and would be a stadium either not best suited for Gaelic games or not suitable for football (I think the GAA pitch length is 20 meters longer than maximum for football).
If a walkway could be built from Kenneday Way to take fans from the M1 end of the ground, it would help, not sure about the height stands could be built without breaking legislation concerning local housing, but it could be redeveloped suitable for Gaelic games for a lot less than needed for UEFA (10,000 capacity Terrace at the Andytown road and M1 ends, 10,000 capacity stand on the Twinbrook side off the ground with media, hospitality boardrooms etc and on the city side of the ground a 7,500 stand with hospitality etc and 5,000 terrace below it for a fraction of the price UEFA would require.
Still leaves the issue of congestion, Boucher Road playing fields for cars and buses on the industrial estate would be possible, but that area is a nightmare traffic wise without a game on, about a two mile walk from the new grand central train station or Balmoral halt and the Glider is much worse than the trams in Manchester

Well the Irish government are putting money into Clones for new floodlights, why not stick a bit more in there and the Euro games can be played there.
...Or perhaps not

As a match going Northern Ireland fan I agree with this

Not sure you’ll get this. It’s very Dublinese.
But The Monk is a drug baron/crime boss and there was talk of him going up for election this time around.

This is typical of Dublin druggies.
Very funny.

That period of time is fascinating.
The incestuous goings on between England, Scotland and ourselves according to Wikipedia makes Game of Thrones look like childsplay.
Oh for the good old days when Catholic Mary queen of Scots could preside over a Protestant Scotland.

Look at the world today. We’ve learnt nothing. Religion still causing conflict globally.

All those people were parasitic garbage.
Before and today.

Today still living off the work of others:

Election on Friday.
As lost as I’ve ever been. Really undecided what to do.
Foreign policy is big on the doorstep, apparently. So are completely local issues however, like the housing crisis and homelessness which is so evident on Dublin streets.

Surprised MacGregor isn’t standing

Won't be voting this time....all main partys are scum.

Independent s will do well.
The only ones I’ve spoken to at the doorstep are Labour and Social Democrats.
In fairness to both candidates, I told their canvassers that I would speak to them if they chose to call later.
Both came back and discussed matters of my concern.

McGregor is smarting a bit at the moment. His whiskey brand brings withdrawn from the shelves of several premises now
I think he sold it for €115m. Can you imagine how the company that bought it are feeling now
The airport duty frees have taken it off the shelves now.
He has a stake in a couple of pubs. There is one in Dublin somewhere and it was well packed yesterday. That fella still has a lot of hanger ons who have no problem associating with him

I'm in 2 minds about FG and SF. No interest in FF or the rest.

I sorta think that FG are both the problem and the solution. I like that they are doing the right thing in many places but hate that they ignore the real crisis situations that many are in. Its like they see everything 5 years in the future and choose to be blind to today (let them eat cake). I also think that they are incredibly arrogant and disrespectful. Basically spoiled rich people's kids.

I like a lot of what SF had to say a few years ago but I've not paid much attention since and God knows what they would be like. I also have no interest in a united Ireland unless almost all people in the North wanted it (90+%). And I've no care about what was done in generations past North or South... all irrelevant to today. I am just a bit tempted to try the lefties to see if they could address today's crisis without screwing up the future.

I'll probably go FG and then SF and see what happens.

The Black Forge. It’s out Walkinstown/Crumlin direction.
A few in work have said it does a very good Sunday lunch menu.
He does have some very shady hangers on. He seems to embrace the gangster image however. Never liked the c**t.

I'd say Sinn Fein might be in for a drop in their vote. The perception of them being pro-immigration is not shared by a large number of the working class, particularly in the main cities

Tony if you don’t mind can I ask what age category would you fall in to.
I have legacy issues with SF knowing what they still have in the party, yet Mary Lou does make sense to me at times. Not sure I’d trust her or them not to screw me. I just feel they can’t cost or budget for what they promise without hitting the middle class that they consider rich. That’s me.
My son is 22 yo on the other hand and he has no hang ups about voting for them.

My big disappointment with FG and FF is that they were the traditional rivals yet two cheeks of the same arse. What SF offered was a left alternative. Then when SF didn’t get an overall majority FF and FG decided to coalesce just to keep them out.

That is not what people voted for. It was unprecedented and not what was canvassed.
So this time around I’m still deciding what to do.
