Irvine Welsh books

I've actually met Welsh a few times here in Chicago. He lives near me. Really top guy. Knows his football. He's married now so obviously settled down some, but you can see that twinkle in his eye.

Many of the characters in his books are awful people so his style is so compelling that you continue reading. Irvine Welsh does strike me as being a decent guy and a character too.

As has been said, I'll agree to the Filth and Maribou Stork Nightmares group. Though i do love all his stuff.

If you are looking for similar authors, i would say Brett Easton Ellis (American Pscho, Less Than Zero, Rules of Attraction). Just trade Edinburgh for the drug scenes of New England or LA.

dont think that he is or was like any of his characters
he is an author of fiction and thats all ... pure fiction
he always has been a nice quiet guy

You're always writing about yourself and your own experiences regardless of what the genre is. Welsh was a jack the lad in his day and has undoubtedly dabbled in these things.

errm no he seriously was not
just a myth that he was happy to grow arms and legs

I concur with peoffrey. Pretty sure I've seen an interview or two where he credits his wife now for keeping him relatively sober and on the straight and narrow, otherwise he would have fallen back into that cycle at some point. He'll get drunk, but that's the extent of it nowadays.

@Didsbury Dave Kill Your Friends was astonishing. Thank you for the recommendation.
Bwahahahaha! DD has single handedly boosted sales of John Niven books. I finished it on Monday and 'Single White Male' got delivered yesterday. £2.26 for the hardback from Amazon. Just going to finish Kun's book and then should have time for it before Irvine Welsh's new book in April.
