Why was he at fault for the second? The ball was left by at least 2 defenders in front of him before it sailed past him. So were the 2 defenders in on it too?

I have no views one way or the other about this particular game but I will say that a Prem game's result will be changed as a result of these betting synidcates getting at a player.

When they do, it will not necessarily be a matter of bunging cash his way it could just as easily be as a result of blackmail eg. A honey trap or threats against the player or his family.

A ref is unlikely to become a millionaire so you can see why they might get involved. Cricket players are relatively low paid so can see why they might.
