Is Erling Haaland the first superstar in his prime to join the Premier League and succeed instantly?

If you are arguing this for those players, then Haaland has to fall into the same category as well for me. I.e he wasnt 'a superstar' when he arrived.

So, no.

Haaland was 100% easily a superstar level player & already a global household name. A top 3 striker alongside Benzema & Lewandowski in the past 3 years.

There is a reason why literally nearly all top-tier European clubs wanted Haaland & were competing for his signature.

- 29 goals in 27 games for Salzburg
- 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund
- 23 goals in 20 games at Champions League
- 20 goals in 19 games for Norway

I disagree. But only in as much as your claim that Kevin and others you list weren't superstars, and Haaland compares more to them than to Ronaldo Messi Neymar etc. He wasn't the top scorer gor his team, he didn't play for the top few of the big teams, he won one cup. Hardly different to signing Debruyne from Wolfsburg, Salah from Roma, Aguero from Atletico etc etc.

There was an article in the Athletic this week about "the real Haaland", which was disappointingly thin on details, but it did have one interesting point.

Haaland hasn't been seen out and about much since the early days at City, and they said he's accepted that he's reached the status where it's difficult to go out!

What was more interesting is that they said that he could go out at Dortmund, but now thinks that even there he would find it difficult with the attention, suggesting that he and the people around him, think he's gone to a different level at City.

Obviously City are a more high profile club, but considering how "big" we thought he was before he arrived, and considering that Dortmund are the second biggest club in Germany, and regulars in the knockout stages of the Champions League, it's quite astonishing that he feels that leap to celebrity has now happened.

I hate to judge because it's crazy figures already at a young age, but without Messi or Ronaldo being around any more Football needs Superstars, also TV companies need superstars to sell their leagues or cups competitions,

Manchester City and the Premier League have the most talked-about player in world football since a Messi or Ronaldo, Dare I say the most significant player Manchester City has ever had, We have been waiting for years for that marquee player. People will say we stoled him from Dortmund, BUT the truth is Haaland would have walked the channel to play in this Manchester City team and Nobody else,

when it's your time in football and it's manchester city's time in football history One player takes you to another level, they all have had their time United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and that one player takes them to the promised land,

A superstar? Absolutely.
In his prime? Not necessarily. He's only 22 and hasn't won much yet (although that could all change in the next few weeks). Yes, he's playing like a footballer in his prime, scoring for fun and breaking records, but he has potential to get far better in his all-round game. We might not see Haaland's true 'prime' for another three or four years. Imagine how scary he could be at that point!
