At least ESPN actually acknowledge that football existed for over a century before $ky seem to think it started.

I like the build up they do on ESPN, also usually show whats going on in the tunnel and stuff.

Plus... Rebecca Lowe in HD;)

Now that is an interesting question. Used to watch Sky in Europe and it's coverage was better by far than anything that was around before, but now it seems to be a bit "cliche'd" when I back to watch it and way to over dependent on selling a big 4, 5, 8, 17 or whatever to sell its games. Also now too involved with teams, channels, politics and god knows what else to make it truly independent if you ask me.

Can only watch ESPN in Bangkok now and it seems fresher with some more presentable presenters in my view. Pundits seem fair and balanced too. And all that from a US channel, who would have believed it? Still determined to make baseball, basketball and American football major international spectator sports though .. good luck with that :)

Both have their good points and both have massive bad point's, coverage is probably by the same outside broadcast company so not much difference

Sky Bad Points

Richard (monkey man) Keys
Constant Rag Loving
Think that any sport has only existed for the last 20 years
MNF an absolute dog end of a program
Murdoch

Good Points

Half an hour build up is more than adequate
Frequency of games

ESPN Bad Points

Jon Champion and Chris Waddle (sure Champion is a red and Waddle just bugs me)
Ray Stubbs
HD Quality not as good as Sky

Good Points

Not as traditional big 4 biased
Joe
Kev
and the blonde woman

I have to watch in a pub, so it makes no difference.
The only thing for me is what's that outside at the touchline desk for analysis thing all about? Robbie Savage having to shout to be heard! If your going to have analysis then it needs to be heard and understood.

I prefer ESPN, but then again. It's the only channel I ever have on. American football - all levels, NHL, Football. I love American sports and the only thing that they don't have which is kind of annoying is the NFL Post-season and Superbowl.

Edit: And to the previous poster, it's an American thing. With the NFL there is always a pitch side desk where they do alot of the pre-game interviews and analysis'.

That reminds me, I was telling my lad about a Youtube clip (from Germany I think) where the analyst on the touchline gets a ball on the head, very funny. He wanted to see it but I have no idea what it was called or how to find it, can anybody help?

As annoying as Sky are, and as much as they charge, they do a good job. Light years ahead of terrestrial coverage.

ESPN strikes me as pretty bare bones, but in a good way.

That said, Sky's cricket coverage is a million times better than their football coverage. Better analysis, better pundits, better commentary.

Having worked in the States for quite a while I came to love NFL (my Maud calls in Not Fooking Likely when its on bless) Baseball and basketball, ESPN are brilliant for the latter two but generally only seem to have the Monday night game which is way too late for me, Sky's coverage of NFL is nothing short of fantastic 2 very knowledgeable main hosts, great coverage of games and the big one.

The thing on the pitch makes me laugh though everyone just looks miserable and cold maybe ESPN are trying to do it on the cheap as well as conforming to American standards.
