Is Gareth Barry better than Frank lampard??

Not against Bulgaria he wasn't a holding midfielder
That's what i said and that's correct,Lampard was dropped it's nothing to do with a system that he does or does not fit into.

Except Barry was a holding midfielder against Bulgaria and we can speculate about why Lampard was dropped but we won't know right now how long term that decision is.

In short, the question is unanswerable, they are totally different players. Barry is very good at what he does and Lampard has been very good at what he does, just different areas of the pitch. Personally, I don't think Fat Frank has been given a decent role in the England set up with him and Gerard always vying for that central role; none of them able to concentrate on the job in hand.

Barry on the other hand, has proved himself time and again and his understated role always goes amiss apart from the most fervent of football supporters.

I'll ask though, was Fat Frank dropped or was he being saved for the Wales game? What I gathered from the Bulgaria match was that Capello was doing Taggart a favour and playing a team mainly of Rag players, who haven't done bad to be fair, in order to give them a rest for the weekend. The FA always shit on the Swamp don't you know.

I have been a critic of Barry to be sure but I am the first person to be pleased with his outstanding form this season.

However, the "only real supporters that understand football know Barry's worth" argument set upon anyone that pointed out he had a few horrid performances--and some mediocre-- last season is really just odd. Somehow Barry has become both a very underrated and overrated player in the same base of supporters.

He has had exceptional performances. He has also had truly awful showings where he continually gave the ball away in dangerous positions and was too slow to make amends. He seems a different player this season and I am the happiest among us but let's not fall into the bottomless pit that is "what is now has always been" fallacy.

All of that said, although I agree Frank and Gaz are very different players I would take our man on form at this moment in time. Long may it last.

barry has been surprisingly good recently, with our squad he has had to up his game somewhat. nice to see his desire.

Completely different players. It's like comparing Sergio Busquets and Andrés Iniesta!

Fair comment, but I'm my question is purely over the past season and fat Frank has not been half the player he was.

He's possibly not, but for a midfielder off form to score better than 1 in 3 last season. I think even Barry's mum would cast an envious eye is she was asked to pick only one of the two.

have no stats in front of me, but how many of his career goals have been from the spot? I'd have to say more than a quarter.
