Is it time for City to move on from Kompany & Toure?

I think Yaya's time has clearly come. He's obviously past his prime and will only play a supporting role - and that's assuming he somehow hasn't upset Pep in some way.

Kompany, though, is still world class - best defender in the P/L for me when fit.

With respect to club versus country... I'm a bit puzzled by this.

Obviously Kompany wants to play for his national side, ideally winning the W/C.

Too, Belgium's manager will want Kompany to start for most/all international fixtures so that the back line gains familiarity with one another and confidence.

So what is it that City fans expect Kompany to do?

If the national manager wants Kompany to start - is Kompany supposed to tell Martinez - nope, no can do! Not going to start unless MC says it's A-OK.

IMO, Kompany simply needs to be far less aggressive in both P/L and national fixtures - pace himself so that he can start whenever called upon.

I think it's much too selfish of City fans to demand that Kompany give up his international career.

What in World Cup Finals year ?? Not a chance and personally I don`t blame him as this will be his final showing in that competition.
Totally agree - Vinnie plays for World Cup contenders - contenders largely because of him. He has to play. I always look out for our players in the major international tournaments.

It's selfish of City fans to want their captain to actually have a sustained run of playing for the club who employ him & pay his wages?

The only selfish thing on display here is Kompany's heart & mind being selfish toward his nearly always broken body. It's his body body that's telling him the loudest that it can't cope with so many demanding matches because of all the damage it's sustained throughout his career.

Kompany is ignoring his body, so his adoring fans are adding weight to the argument that he needs to physically manage the stresses & strains he puts his body through. World Cup or no World Cup, Kompany has long since proven his body cannot cope, so why does he persist?

I have to say I dont and I dont see how you can. The OP is full of speculation and not based in facts. None of us know what the issue with Yaya is, and given his age and the new players we have and the way we intend to play he was only ever going to be a bit part player this season. As for Kompany, who knows what is wrong with him. We are told it is a knock rather than a pull and so until facts say otherwise that is what I will be going on. 'Time to cut Kompany adrift', 'pissed the club off' - the first part is just wrong, no it isnt. And there is nothing really to suggest the second is right other than paper talk. Pissed the fans off, maybe. And the FFP bit is wrong too, we didnt have to keep older players to comply with it at all. We nearly paid tens of millions to buy Sanchez and probably will in January.
Ok, I agree the 'pissed the club off' bit is speculation but I do think that both of them are past their 'best before' dates. Yaya I think struggles with his weight and has never been the most mobile player, the type Pep likes. Vinny is obviously very injury prone and in my opinion not a Pep type player in so much as his passing is not up to his standard. Fantastic defender but if you remember his passing in midfield when we first bought him was the reason he was moved further back but now it is more important to be able to keep the ball.
I have to add that I think that both of them are absolute legends at our club and were fantastic players (just like Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott) in their time frame.

I do think we will miss Vinny's leadership though.

I think it's too early to write off Toure. Like the rest of the team in the second half against West Brom, he struggled when we lost control of the ball and it became frenetic, but up until that point he'd been integral to our passing and retention of the ball. Expect him to play quite a few games in the coming months.

Have we ever wondered, whoever signs the best defensive midfielder, wins the league. kante (chelsea) 2016/17, Kante(leicaster city) 2015/16, Matic (chelsea)2014/15, fernandinho (2nd citys EPL title), Barry/dejong (city 1st EPL title). Lets see this season, But next season we should sign a good DMF and we have a better chance of winning EPL.
