Is it time for Colin to abdicate his throne as the King?

That's kind of my point.....Colin was the King (and I don't think anybody would dispute that), but he hasn't pulled on his boots for us for about 30 years.

Don't you think he's a bit old for that now ?

You don't replace legends, you add to them.

What a daft thread this is.

Yeah but legends all have an order, some stand above others!!

Nobody said anything about replacing Colin Bell as a legend. My point is: Do we finally have a player who is good enough to claim the crown as the King of Man City after a 30 year wait?

Not sure why you think my opinion is daft? I take it you mustn't think that Tevez is a natural successor to the crown that Colin has had for 30 years?

In your subject you say "Is it time for Colin to abdicate his throne as the King?" how is this not replacing him ?

I think its daft because of the subject.

Tevez has been here all of 8 months, while Bell was one of our top players for as many years. Ireland was fantastic last season should we replace Bell with Ireland ? No clearly not.

Like I said you don't replace Legends you add to them, and while Tevez may prove to be one, 8 months is far too early to say one way or another.

Tevez is having a great season, enjoy it, but without suggesting that one of our best ever players should no longer be considred "King".

If you want to carry on living in the past, then that's up to you. Me, I'm looking to the future & firmly believe that it's about time we stopped harping on about how good we were in the late 60's early 70's.

With regards to your Ireland comment......now that is DAFT.

Ireland has proved to be an excellent player for 1 season in his whole career.

Whereas Tevez individual awards include:
Copa Libertadores Most Valuable Player: 2003
Silver Olimpia (Argentine Footballer of the Year): 2003, 2004
Golden Olimpia (Argentine Sportsperson of the Year): 2004
Olympic Golden Boot: 2004
CBF Campeonato Brasileiro Best Player: 2005
Placar Bola de Ouro: 2005
South American Footballer of the Year: 2003, 2004, 2005

For me Tevez is certainly the one player we have at the moment who could take the mantle and be Colin's successor.

Unfortunately you seem to think that this is almost having a pop at Colin Bell. I apologise if that's how you think the statement came across, but it isn't what was meant. Colin will always be King, but surely the time is now right for somebody else to take over the mantle as the King of Man City.

How many Kings of England have there been? Aren't they all still refered to as Kings? As I say, Colin will always be King, but for me, Tevez can be our new King.

Since you clearly have another agenda, there's no point debating it with you except to say with Tevez its 8 months and 0 trophies, at City, and if you think that stacks up against Bell then you're DAFT.

Is reading difficult or something ? Clearly since you ignored virtually every point I made as to why the two don't compare (yet).

None of this at Manchester City, and that's all I give a f**k about when thinking City Legends.

I think we're all looking to the future but to dismiss the past so callously is to do your club a great disservice. Our new owners in fact have cited our footballing heritage as one of the reasons they found the club so attractive.

It may seem like 'harping on' to you but comparing Tevez with Bell at this time is frankly ridiculous, not as ridiculous as those that were last season comparing Michael Johnson with Bell but way off the mark nonetheless.

Judging by everything I've read about the immaculate Carlos Tevez I should imagine he'd be more than a little embarrassed by the comparison too.

Other agenda? Not sure what you mean there pal.

To clear things up as I ain't looking for a ruck:

I personally think that Carlos Tevez is rapidly turning into a legend & in my eyes he is the only player I have seen since I started going who could possibly be considered as a successor to the Great Man.

I have no problem reading your posts Cleavers, I just don't agree with you. Sorry if that upsets you, but I don't think it's a daft thread & I don't think it's a daft opinion. It's my opinion & it's different to yours, doesn't make it daft tho.

I'm not saying Carlos is better than Colin, I'm saying that in my humble opinion we need a new King to take us forwards & I believe that man to be Carlos Tevez.

I fully understand what your saying with regards to he's only been here for 8 months & no trophies, but my only question to you would be: In your opinion could Carlos Tevez be the King of Man City in much the same way that Colin was our King when he was playing all of those years ago?

-- Tue Mar 30, 2010 2:08 pm --

Sorry Happy, but I haven't compared the 2 players. Comparing Tevez & Bell is like comparing chalk & cheese. One was the most graceful player ever to pull on a City shirt & the other is a beast of a man with a never say die attitude.

I want us to have a new King, I want us to have somebody to believe in, I want a new hero & that man is Carlos Tevez for me. Why is that so ridiculous?

That takes nothing away from Colin 'The King' Bell, it just shows that I believe in King Carlos.

think you've answered your own question, not now but in the future he may be considered as giving as much to City.
Who was/is the better all round footballer? Not a shred of doubt -King Colin.

Surely it's time for the new King to take us to the promised land?

When we arrive in the promised land, wake me up and i will give him the crown, until then he is just a wandering prophet.

We have won fuck ALL yet and neither has Tevez with City. When he does, we will take notice.

Until then he is a terrifically gifted player who, unlike Robinho, has the correct attitude. The foundations are there. Now build the palace fit for the King.

Bell did it, you talk about it.

Carry on.....

Colin Bell was a great player and did it all. He is still a legend and will always be the King to those that saw him play, and I think for a good number that didn't but know how much he is/was revered. Having met him, like a good many Blues he is a really lovely guy as well.

Carlos Tevez is the becoming the best palyer that I have seen at City for many a year. He may not have the pretty football that Kinky had, but he is more effective. He has the energy and infectious charcter of a Dickov with 10 times the ability. I have never seen any player be able to win a ball against defenders that when they go infor it you don't believe they stand a chance of ggetting it. He rolls a defender superbly and is scoring shedloads of goals. Some great some, good old fashioned tap ins. I think he is one hell of a player. I think he has developed magnificently this season.

He actuallly reminds me more of Franny Lee.

Is Carlos now the King the King the King?
Is he now the leader of Man City?
Is he the greatest centre forward that the world has ever seen?

I know he's been here for less than a season...........and his 1st touch is crap & he doesn't score enough goals (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha), but the guy is top top class.

Jesus wept....half of you kids were slagging him when he went a few games without a goal at the start of the season, back the Adebyor was your new 'king'!

I am with you on this
He is more like Franny than THE ONE AND ONLY KING Franny first touch was not the best (that is why he won so many pens)

Kids...nice one. Not been called a kid for some time. I know some were slagging him off, but I wasn't one of them. Form is temporary, class is permanent & Tevez is top class.
