Is left back really a problem?

No its not a big problem, the biggest issue for me is that we dont seem to commit to a player in this spot. we have played Mendy, Cancelo, Zinchenko there and now have the option of Ake.

All the top teams seem to have a settled back 4 who you know will play 80% of the games and will generally only be broken up due to injury or suspension.

We have Walker and Laporte, after that it's anyones guess.

Tagliafico is the most 'Pep' fullback clearly on market yet seems to be no interest. Ajax already said they would sell him as well, could negotiate for under £40m which was quoted earlier to Leicester.

Correction; second best option after Alaba. But point still stands. Either should be targeted but I cannot understand why it's not the case
Tagliafico is 27/28 and playing in a little boys league where Blind would be if he was not needed else where, he could step up but at £40m i do not think anybody will take the chance, maybe a never never deal to Tottenham? Alaba is a no go, it is unlikely he wants to leave, play LB, come to England or pass on the big bucks he is supposedly earning?

I see that as a problem, after 8 transfer windows we still have the Ying and Yang of Clichy and Kolorov, though maybe not of the same quality

Fair on quality difference in leagues, but any left back would be a risk, not that signing a Telles from Porto would work either given how our last signing from that club went. Risks are there, but I would be inclined to believe ten Hag is a good manager, and he's helped Tagliafico develop well, played in a system similar to ours, where he's been consistent and reliable. I think if we can try for him it would be good, experience is always a plus, then when Mendy goes we can get a young left back to give him good competition. Just thinking that way.

But yeah, doesn't look like we will sign one, the market is short on quality defenders

The market being in short supply may be down to us looking in the wrong place, Walker is not a great RB, Cancelo is but Walker can do the job asked of him well, Moses and Traore are better at RWB than RW, so maybe a LW could be converted to LWB like Saka has

Tagliafico would be a good shout. We just need a proper left-back who's half-decent to rotate with Mendy in a very compact season, who can then just be the squad left-back if we find another star LB at some point to supercede Mendy.

Anyone has any insider knowledge on if Txiki is working secretly on a left back?

We’ve signed 1 left back in 9 years and he did his cruciate within the first month and is probably about quarter of the player he was before

It’s shocking squad management, the amount we have wasted on CB’s and wingers and we have never addressed the left back issue

Also isn’t Mendy out of contract next year?

Wouldnt be suprised to see us get Danny Rose on a short term deal
