Is Manchester a tough place to live in?

I bet it was that **** Colonel Mustard, he`s always been a wrongun.

I reckon reverend Green burnt the mosque down

Literally either end of my street. One on Droylsden Rd and the other just off Culcheth Lane.

I don’t understand why Dubai is as popular and rich as people think it is!

Last time I went in 1983 it was just vast desert.

Yeah, when I was Manchester in 79 AD it was a right shithole full of Romans.

Waiting for us to invent football.

I left 2 months ago, to move to Somerset. Have lived in Newton Heath all my life.
It is full of drugs and crime in Newton Heath. Had a mosque burnt down and a woman beaten to death with a candle stick at either end of my street. The place stinks of weed. There are stabbings, shootings, hit and runs all the time. This is a place where kids chuck bricks at cars for entertainment.
NH will always be home, but moving to Somerset is the best decision I have made, from a lifestyle perspective.
I hear you bud, once you’ve sampled what other parts of the country have to offer outside of the big cities, especially lifestyle and every day life, it’s a bit of an eye opener.
I’ll always consider Manchester home, I’ll always be a proud Mancunian, and I’ll always defend it to the hilt, because it has so many amazing things about it, but honestly, I didn’t have the mindset and attitude to grow up where I did, I’d have been more than happy to have grown up somewhere outside of city life, not having to watch over your shoulder every two minutes, bobbing and weaving, fight around every corner etc etc, and I certainly didn’t want that for my kids .

One thing that is noticeable, on this forum in particular, is that lots of posters or city fans have left Manchester or used to live there 20 years ago. I’m not from Manchester, but lots of my family are and it’s similar for them, other then the odd relative.

I haven’t been to the city centre In about two years now and to be honest avoid it, Piccadilly gardens in particular is a dump.

in terms of areas, there are some nice areas, but they are turning into mini versions of London and lots of locals cant afford to live their now.

Personally having grown up right on the edge of Manchester. I prefer the towns and areas around it. I think a lot of Mancs do as well, judging by how many have left.

As a City player earning X a week affords a lifestyle in Manchester that the vast majority of Mancunians can only dream of.

Owning a Mansion, large grounds, an indoor swimming pool, a games room, a gym, nice cars, etc in the nice areas of Gtr Manchester isn't a problem or it shouldn't be a problem.

Sadly for all of us, we can't do anything about the weather and climate in Manchester. But it's no secret.

If footballers from abroad have a problem with the English climate, that would effect their lifestyle, they shouldn't sign for an English club. England doesn't have a Mediterranean climate, it never will have, and it doesn't afford a Mediterranean lifestyle.

Posting in a typical mini and short lived Mancunian Summer heatwave.

I still visit Newton Heath regularly, as my old man is still there (Albert Gardens, off Averill St) And I drive through to the stadium after picking my cousin up in Failsworth.

It's horrid to see what has become of the area, yes it always had an 'edge' in certain parts like Briscoe Lane, Scotland Hall Rd etc. But it seems the majority is now really dodgy, with all the problems you describe above. Old Church St has lost most of it's old shops, to be replaced by takeaways, vaping shops, and the now widespread ''Turkish'' barbers.
Of course, that isn't unique ... most towns have gone the same way.

Brookdale Park is unloved and overgrown. Nothing like the lovely park we practically lived in as kids.

Only the Windsor Rd area still looks cared for and as was. Even my dad's little cul de sac, which was well known for being so well kept has suffered. Many gardens left to grow wild. Weeds line the pavements, which are always blocked by cars parked. My aunt also lived there until she passed away a couple of years ago. Her house, which had amazing gardens front and back, was bought by an investment company and rented out. The front garden now has it's double gates to the drive chained and locked, various bins are lined up against it, and their car is left parked on the pavement outside (totally blocking it) as the drive itself is home to a huge trampoline .... my aunt would be spinning. Again, this isn't unique, it's just the general attitude of many now .... no care, no pride.

I cannot wait to 'escape' as you have next year!
