Is one more CB all we need to compete for a top 4 position?

Looking at our squad, and taking into account the departures that has taken place, if we get Lescott for somewhere around £30-35m (as we seem to be desperate to get proven Premiership CBs), do you think we are set, or do you feel that we need more depth in central midfield or another defender (a new right back maybe, or a CB backup). What do you think? Which positions do you see as our weak points after 35m Lescott, and are they so weak that you feel we need to bring someone in?

If you look at Villa & Everton's squads from last year, we are considerably stronger. So, yeah! Then again, I would have considered Chelsea's squad stronger than the Scum last year. Names on paper don't count for shit. I love our squad as it is right now (and our club always and forever) and would love it if we continue to add Grade "A" players. Clearly a CB is on the cards. But, if the window slammed shut right now... we march into the season as strong as we've ever been :-) (big smile) and are more than capable of competing!

I can not help but think that some Fan's expectations might be just a little bit to high for this coming season. Successful teams usually add one or two quality signings to bolster winning side's. Remember we have added several top class players who are proven in the prem, however these players will need time to get to know each other and bond, this will not happen overnight.

I just hope that poeple will notice this and give them time to gel. I would expect us to be pushing top 6 for most of the season, however would not expect us to seriously break the top four until at least next season.

But do you think it might be a good idea to strengthen the team abit more with top class players on certain positions to make up for our lack of gelling and bonding? Gelling and bonding so that we get a team is crucial, but in the meantime, a couple of super quality players might make the difference? What do you think?

We do need one more centre back but for a top four position? I'm not sure. It depends largely on how well the players we have purchased alongside our previously aquired players gel together. You'd hope that with the class players we've bought in they'd all be on the same wavelength.

In some strange way I wish we didn't buy another CB, as I fear Nedum won't start many games then. I really think he'd be amazing next to Toure, and Toure can teach him so much!
Rather we just bought a young (backup) talented midfielder in place of Elano (Delph or something...) and then closed the cheque book.
Obviously keep our eyes open to any amazing swoops that might arise in the last 48h of the window...

I agree with you... dont think we need another cb right now... but we need a midfielder... as cover for Barry/Ireland... Ned and Micah will learn much from Kolo...and i don tlike that you change to much in the defensive line up... one player max... the we can add another cb in january or next summer...

Another central dfender would be useful, and I'd also go in for any outstanding player who suddenly becomes available. Why not when you have the money?

But the manager and players now need time to get the best out of the squad.

We've got the meximum out of the transfer market, and now the players and caoches need time. A commodity they don't have
