Is our defence falsely ridiculed? (Probably Not)

We have the third best goals against us this season and we've only conceded 4 goals in our last 6 games in all competitions. So why does it get such bad press? Of course there is the odd rubbish moment like West Hams second goal the other week, but that can happen from time to time.

If our only weak link is our defence then I am happy, as it really isn't as bad as some make out.

Plus blues we have our captain back soon :)

Thoughts?
 
I think the issue is the stupidity of some of the goals we concede. But in general I agree all the moaning about us being a defensive shambles is just hysterical bollocks most of the time.

True mate, I was looking on the Leicester forum, and they are all saying our defence is shit, and that vardy will run riot.

It's the nature of the goals we concede that irritates me, if we were conceding more "worldies" I'd be much less concerned but we concede too many avoidable, sloppy goals whether they're down to the back four or deficiencies in the midfield.

Thats the nature of the modern fan it seems. If the red tops put up a picture of a chicken on Mars and then the next day said it was a joke you would still get people telling you there are chicken aliens waiting to invade.
 
I'd say it's mostly because there's a lot of 'heart in the mouth' moments during games, usually about 3 per game. Just look at that chance Palace had in the first minute against us. I think most of those moments stem from a lack of cover in midfield though which exposes the defence and makes them look weaker
 
No. For the amount of money (and resources) we have invested in our defence, and the calibre of defenders we have at the club, our defence is a joke.
 
Mp always said from the day he arrived he wanted to play attacking football. Sometimes this is naive and innefective, but the alternative is José style anti-football and parking the bus. The defence was better under Mancini, but we often didn't get a sniff at the other end. Its all about balance and being able to adapt to the opposition.
 
Claudio will ensure our backline is constantly being turned round with over the top balls and the thought of De Michelis up against Vardy worries me greatly.

Did Martin play at their place or was it Mangala?
 
Absolutely dead right that everything we do gets ridiculed. Pep is being ridiculed because he took the easy job, I suppose he should have tried to save Villa?
Everyone parks the bus against us and then we get slated for conceding a breakaway goal very now and then. Fuck em all.

Mangala. Did a job on Vardy all game.
 
In a word, yes.

Biggest issue for us as a team is the lack of defensive cover our midfielders give at times but despite that, our record is still excellent despite what the pundits say and then gets repeated on here

Mangala is great against strikers who rely on physical attributes like pace and power (Vardy and Lukaku), it's the clever forwards who rely on positioning that he struggles with (Kane would be an example of this I guess)
 
The criticism of our defence is well over board and I've been telling anyone who'll listen about this for a while.
They get a rough ride. Our defence is the most exposed in the league. Don't get me wrong our defence isn't faultless by any means but the slagging of it gets is well overboard.
Our midfield is a much bigger issue in my opinion.
There is always a huge gap between our midfield and our back line and considering we operate a high line, that is worrying.
 
i admit i havent seen every minute of every one of our games but the only game i can think of where we were truely a shambles was the first half of the liverpool game.
This season it seems that every one of our mistakes has been penalized.
The only thing that really bugs me is ottamendis constant desire to fly off his feet all the time! sometimes i wish he would just stand up and keep tight or jockey the attacker. remember that famous word "jockey"? defenders dont jockey like they used to in the 1980's!

whatever we do we get ridiculed for so we cant win either way. We could go all the season without conceeding a goal and sign messi and neymar and pogba and score 300 league goals but they would still find something to moan about our club. Its us against the world im afraid.
