Is our defence falsely ridiculed? (Probably Not)

I think that the biggest indictment of the club is the way we have gone through centre back for fun - Vinny must be a doubt in the longevity stakes and we have somehow ended up with two expensive and poor quality first choice backed up with a refugee from Help The Aged Argentina. Would we have been better saving the money and persevering with Boyata or Savic? Denayer is well regarded yet shunted off on loan?

Ithink anybody with an ounce of sense feared for what would happen today when the centre of our defence was to face Vardy. When we saw the teamsheet there was nothing there to allay those fears and what has happened has been predicted all week.

Also at full back we are often wanting.

I am sick and tired of being linked with Lewandowski, Neymar that sort of player - what we need is to sort the defence - and the defensive screen from midfield - out with the money we have to spend

How much have we spent on defenders compared to Leicester? Huth looked a rock ours looked like Sunday school. It comes down to management and coaching.
 
I have been pilloried on here for my comments this year regarding Kolarov, and it gives me no joy whatsoever to say to those who think he's a good player, leader, hardman, has a wand of a left foot, that he is total gash. In a game where it is important to keep it tight what does he do? Gives a poor free kick away because he doesn't know how to tackle - his body shape against Marhez was all wrong and then a simple tug on the player gives a team noted for set plays the chance to take the lead. Compare this to the way their defenders tackled Sergio - right on the line of the laws of the game but hard and made Sergio feel a little sorry for himself. Kolarov was the player with the most touches for us yet not once did he either create a goalscoring chance or get a shot on target - he is a fraud and as a proven international was shown up by the Austrian left back for Leicester - who showed how a defender should defend. Yes we know MDM is at the end of his career but Kolarov has been a major part of our issues this year - he will not get close to playing for Pep. Rant over.
 
The defense is definitely the No1 priority for the rest of the season and in the future. There is a reason why we have not beat any top 6 team. When we come up against quality, pace and movement, the inadequacies of the defense gets exposed and when Pellegrini finally leaves, that will be one of the major negatives during his tenure- the inability to organize and coach the team defensively. Also we have not spent wisely on defensive players and have poorly handled and managed them.
 
our defender left without protection. now you can see how Leicester toying our defender and run straight to our back 4 without defensive midfield to shield first. pellegrini should left out yaya, kolarov and MDM for this game. play 4-3-1-2, forget stupid possession with high defensive line. our defender mostly at their 30s.

I hope this debate is settled today, our defense is officially shit, there are teams like bayern, barca, madrid etc who play expensive football but there b team would defend better than our lot

I had a little rant at our 3 centre halves(other than Vinny throughout the season at different intervals) after the Sunderland win. I thought we were very lucky due to some poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping from Hart. I got fucking slaughtered!!! This defence with kolorov in the mix is fucking diabolical and I stand by this. OK, the midfield doesn't help matters but mistake after mistake is unforgivable!!! I'm at a loss in how we set out in general, and the way we Start the games is like they've all just shared a bong! Poor management there I'm afraid. It's going to be a long season with this lot at our disposal.. And Yaya is a fucking disgrace too!! Been brilliant in seasons past but his total lack of effort in so many games this year is again, unforgivable! Leicester looked very good, but we made them look better!

Season starting to unfurl for me. We won't win the league or champions league. Gonna field a weakened side in the fa cup leaving the cup final of which Liverpool have our number. Defending like today we will struggle to stay in the top 4. Pep might not have the champions league to play in next year.

Aye, gash as usual. The decision to send Denayer out on loan, whilst retaining MD, looks like a stroke of genius by whoever came up with it. He can't be that bad, can he?

Pretty accurate summation of our set up. The players were dog shit today but we repeatedly have tactics that exacerbate our frailties

3 teams have near identical defensive records, only one team is regularly ridiculed for their defence. That is unfair, not an opinion, a fact.

Is it even a question that our defence is shit? The fact that we've got a good defensive record, statistically at least, just shows how poor the quality of the league has been this year. We've been shocking at times, just less shocking than others. It's still shocking whichever way you look at it.
 
He's completely took apart a drilled defensive system to play such open football.

To play that defence against a team like Leicester City is just insulting to the fans that watched that.
 
Kolarov has to go in the summer

Sick of seeing him sprinting forward but jogging back - even when it's obvious our CBs are about to get ripped to shreds. Only one who gets back slower is Yaya and that's party because he sits on his arse for 2 mins before even bothing to stand up!

He also has a shoddy weak as piss mentality, like Dzeko. Can't believe he gets the armband before the likes of Hart and Zaba. But that's MP's fault
 
So we have a transfer window and Vince is made of glass, Mangle is injured and not very good and MDM is slower than Dave Whelan and his broken leg. So do we bring in a couple of enthusiastic loan signings or do we try to win four pots with the shambolic arrangement outlined above. Ooh we kept a clean sheet against bottom three Sunderland and a shite Villa team so the defence must be OK. Somebody is taking the piss.
