Is Pep the greatest?

Good post mate and I agree with most of it. Time will tell whether Pep continues to spend big on ready-made players though. The time is fast approaching for several of our youngsters to be given a fair chance in first team games against decent opposition in meaningful games, not dead rubber cameo minutes. I want to see young players coming through the ranks. Local players especially Foden Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle I want to see them play and become established. Foden obviously has the best chance but for whatever reason Pep is underplaying him.

Now the league has gone is a perfect opportunity to utilise the squad and see some of our young players perform. Ok they'll all make mistakes, that's obvious, but top 3 is our aim, top 4 at a push.

I'm getting frustrated seeing Stones Otamendi having to be chaperoned by Fernandinho because of their incompetence. Pep has to be bold and try Garcia and Hadwood-Belllis. Both natural CBs shielded by Fernandinho, why not? I suggested this on he pre match Wolves thread and had one quote of "Do you want us to lose the game".?..lol. I don't want us to lose any game thanks, but I do want to see youth players come through the ranks. Otherwise we may as well just keep buying costly players and convert the Academy into a factory making Wonka bars!

Whether Pep uses young homegrown players or not is not particularly relevant to how great he is as a manager. Young players are only going to come through at City if they are good enough to help the team achieve the results the club wants and I doubt the club measure Pep on how many minutes he gives to Academy products.

Foden looks like he will be good enough but it is still very early days. I'd love to see him play more and I'm sure he will get more and more time but I think Pep is trying to protect him.

THB also looks a fantastic prospect but he could be five years away from being a regular starter and then have ten years as a first choice CB. Who knows!

Not one of City's kids is good enough yet to be part of our best starting XI and therefore all Pep can do is give them game time as and when it feels sensible to him to do so.

the greatest modern day manager by far, I have never witnessed football live like this in my lifetime... but as posts have said the next three years is a hell of a tester.

does he go end of the season, juve or similar sort of club. A place where he has a very good chance of repeating his glory. Or does he dig deep and try to put the very slightly rocky patch right at city and conquer even more. If he does stay and succeed then he gets the greatest title. But it is going to be hard as I don't think he can buy the players he wants at city, we just don't draw in the exact players he needs, endless money doesn't get the right man.

Foden is good enough for more time, ok not a start every game but coming on after 80 mins is becoming a touch cringe worthy, does it offend phil ?

If pep stays something needs to change in the transfer market, I don't think he is getting his wish list.

It's all about opinion and it's NYE. All the best mate: )

Pep...like bacon face or Brian clough or bill shankley or Matt busby or arsene wenger is an absolute phenomenon of a coach ...
FFS guys win or lose we need to enjoy the coming months as he won’t be here forever ...Silva and Fernandinho off in the summer... pep and aguero summer after .... TRANSITION !!!!! I for one have embraced last few seasons to a maximum

It is an impossible one to judge really as many of the elite managers excel in different areas. It’s like comparing Messi to some of the great defenders and keepers.

That said, I think Pep is the greatest at managing sides with all the tools to dominate. The football he got Barca, Bayern and us playing, whilst cleaning up domestically, is second to none.

People often scoff at those achievements and give it the old ‘anyone could win the league managing those sides’, but that ignores the additional pressure at those clubs. Managerial greats like Anchelotti, Mourinho and Conte have all struggled with the weight of expectation at top sides. They even prove that winning isn’t everything, the top sides want to win with style and that is exactly what Pep does.

On the other hand, I don’t see any way on how Pep could have matched Mourinho’s CL achievements with Inter and Porto. At his best, Mourinho has that nous and tactical defensive shut-out ability that Pep will never have.

Again, I doubt that Pep could better Klopp’s achievements at Dortmund and Liverpool taking into account their comparative spend to their rivals. Yet, if Klopp threw away a 10 point lead at Madrid or Bayern and lost the league he’d have more than likely been sacked. Klopp thrives of that underdog status that Pep will never have. How will he cope next season when people want to knock him of his perch?

Does everybody think he can win us the CL before he goes?
I hope he does but we need some much needed luck in that competition.

I was Barça fan from always... but then Pep arrived and now I'm Pep fan, so I'm City fan.

I have no doubt who would I support if Barça and ManCity played the champions league final.
Nobody but Guardiola made me love and enjoy this sports that much.

In 40 years time there's only going to be 1 current day manager held in the absolute highest of highest regards.

And his name isn't Jurgen or Jose.

How can you change allegiances ?
I remember when Mancini left, so did some fans.

There is only one manager over the last 20 years who has revolutionised football. On top of that he is the manager with most trophies.

That said, is it really important whether Pep is the greatest? Not for me. There have been other managers with incredible achievements and there will be such managers. The important thing is he is managing here.

Wherever this guy has managed he has left his stamp.

At Barcelona, people say, Ahh yeah but look at the players he inherited, anyone could have managed them.

Looking back, not too many were household names at the time if I recall correctly.

The team he moulded in his style, the one that dismantled a very good rags team in the final of the Chumps League was phenomenal.

Off to Bayern, yeah but they always win stuff, granted he never won in Europe with them (they would have him back in a heartbeat though) but I remember watching them beat us at home, we couldn't get near them, never mind get the ball back off them.

I was in CB3 when they kicked off and their players dispursed like a firework going off, spread all over the pitch and ended up giving the us, we were Premier League Champions btw, a footballing lesson..

He's here now and has achieved near impossible feats with us..

First English team in the history of football to win the Quadruple in the same season.

First English team to amass 100 points in a season

First City manager to win and retain a trophy the following season.

First City manager to win back to back titles

Quickest manager to clock up 100 Premier League wins in fewest games played.

All done without having the Worlds most expensive signings in the team..

A style of play that has been and tried to be copied by teams ranging from Non League to International Countries.

The England manager receives regular plaudits from the media about how he's trying to change the way England play.

Southgate wouldn't have had a clue what to do if Pep hadn't given him the blueprint to work off first.

No other manager, Ferguson, Mourinho, Klopp, Anchelotti, Paisley, Clough and Stein included, come close to what Pep has achieved.

I'm sure I've missed stuff out but what I can say is, in my opinion, Pep Guardiola is by far and away the greatest manager the game of Association Football has ever seen, up to this moment in time..

We are so so lucky he has chose to manage our football team ..!

We have had some fantastic managers, wont mention the poor ones! that list goes on and on. The Mercer/Allison combination when most teams were British, just about remember that. Bobby Manc, oh how he upset Fergie and tore down that banner. Pellegrini, ok not everyone's cup of tea but we still i think won 3 trophies while he was with us. He kept the seat warm for surely our best ever manager Pep, took us to another level in my opinion, he raised the profile of the club as well as the standards, improving players while playing some of the most attractive football the league has ever seen and breaking records along the way. So ye, Pep just edged it!

Pep will never get the credit he deserves at City. The media will always spin it. Brian Clough never got the credit he deserved (or the knighthood). Places in history are reserved for the likes of Shankley and Ferguson. You see it now - Klopp is credited with the introduction of the sweeper keeper even though he ignored the concept until last season ! YCMIU but the press manage to.

Easy: my main allegiance is to football's beauty.
I will always love Barça, but if they don't play good football i will not watch their games.
At Barça, Guardiola gave us hard drugs, so now i can't get high with Valverde's shit. I need my beloved dealer's shit.
That's why in a Champions League final i could prefer ManCity rather than Barça... but i couldn't choose between Guardiola and Messi haha
