Is the FA Cup becoming boring

There was a time when clubs got in trouble for fielding weakened sides in the league, so they could absolutely maximise their chances of extending an FA Cup run.

Now it’s far more likely to be the other way round.

Farcical that is. Down to the manager who he decides to field.

There’s a whole host of reasons why the FA Cup isn’t the competition it once was. Undoubtedly the Champions League has played a small part in that. But I think the financial rewards of the Premier League plays a lot larger part.

Just to put the arguments in perspective.

1) Since 2000 - because I couldn't be arsed going further back (although it doesn't really change the argument). 3 teams, outside what you'd consider the top 5 teams in the country (although one of those is a stretch currently ;)), have won the FA Cup - Portsmouth, Wigan (spit) and Leicester. Don't think the CL has much to do with it then??

2) I agree with point 2. Sides in the upper reaches of the Championship, and lower end of the Prem, will prioritise getting in/staying in the PL due to finances.

For clubs lower down I actually think the FA Cup is still what it used to be - a dream of getting to R3 and drawing a plum in us/Arsenal/dippers/Chelsea or God forbid Stretford (preferably away)

I love the FA Cup. I just do. I love that the early rounds are in the BBC and I try and watch some. I hate it when any clubs disrespect it.

I want us to win it.

I also want Pep to wear a fucking suit the next time he gets to Wembley. He manages smart for CL so he can manage it for Cup.

Bollocks! I am 64. FA cup used to be as she said but times change! The FA cup had its time. There was little competition on TV back then one had to listen to European games until they gave you the finals of the 3 comps on TV. It has been supersced. Even our own could not get up for it v Utd last May!

Look at the attendances. Most clubs see a 20% to 40% drop off in attendances in the the first 4 rounds. In my view there is only room for one domestic cup competition these days!

The best thing about the FA cup is the early rounds when your local team makes it through the first round proper, gets on Tele and some cash to keep them going.

The beauty of the competition is those televised ties. The scum started the disrespect of the completion and other so called big clubs followed by their team selections.

I'm glad as a club we've done our best to respect it with the teams we've put out under Pep compared to others.
Totally agree , my local team Kettering have made it through to the first round , got a big local Derby against Northampton away , will sell out there 1500 allocation and also it’s live on tv so a nice money spinner for them.

It's usp has long gone, free to air live match. far more crucial to clubs involved are the play-offs for promotion. Moving up beats a cup in the trophy cupboard hands down

Its…possible to do both

I remember when it was a huge ("massive", even) event. One of only a handful of live games on the telly each season (England vs Scotland and the European Cup final being the others). On Sky Sports+ the other night, they had 10 times that many games available.

Has it ever happened?. Definitely not in my lifetime as I was 3 months off being born when West Ham the last team outside the top flight won it and they didn't go up.

It's been top tier after top tier winning it since I've been born, and it's just boring except when we win it.
