Istanbul Bar and Food prices

I dont remember the set up from when I was last in Istanbul but those who are going to Antalaya make sure the taxi driver puts the meter on . The airport taxi will as always be expensive. But when using them around town/resorts they should always put them on . The meter is a red digital display in the rear view mirror. They love euros or pounds and it can get nasty if they don't put the meter on and charge you triple. Even travelling with my daughter the driver was up for a kick off when I refused to be ripped off. They are trying to claw back lost earnings from covid lock down I guess.

you may use your contactless debit credit card on metros. i ve never tried it actually (i am an academician, i have a discount card). i will control and let you know next week.
otherwise you should buy a istanbulcard

ok, i can talk about it, it is public information

Our central bank is out of USD reserves as of today. actually we are minus, but i wont get to details.
they are pressuring USD/TRY exchange rate in favor of TRY with many unorthodox methods lately, because of the elections.
after monday, we will see the real financial situation in turkey. (monday us financial market is closed, maybe the effect will be limited) but this week is important about Turkish Lira.
anyone interested in fx markets, follow turkish lira this week. :)))) Unbelievable things happening.

thats why everyone prefers USD/EURO. We are out of USD/EUR. :))

metros/busses will be free (fans with tickets) on matchday.

Hi @kerem gokmen many thank for all the useful info you’re posting. We’re arriving into SAW airport early evening on Friday and planning on getting the metro and then the marmaray train to our hotel as we’re staying near Marmaray Sirkeci station. I was going to buy an Istanbulkart and load credit onto that for the journey - is it correct that 2 people can travel on 1 card and can I buy it from the machine with my credit/debit card or do the machines only take TL?
Or is there any point in buying an Istanbulkart if we can just use contactless credit/debit card on all public transport?
 
Really not going to need much. They'll no doubt bump up prices everywhere because the finals in town and they can make a killing but food is apparently really cheap so even with a premium that's not going to cost much at all.

As for drinking, there is no alcohol in the ground which is insane given who one of the main sponsors are. if you're drinking in the fan park, they'll be uefa prices. I expect them to be charging standard event prices with not much change out of a tenner for a single warm Heineken, I'll be drinking primarily around taksim and getting to the ground much later and pretty much avoiding the fan park, I expect taksim will be much cheaper and just better.

The only other real expense most will have to cover over there is your airport transport. Remember we get access to free shuttle buses on the Saturday so you won't need to pay for any travel on the saturday but you'll need roughly £30 one way to get to or from the airport any other days.

Also worth noting they've got a strict no coins policy in the stadium so get rid of all your change before going to the ground or lose it.

Given the current climate, I'd say take less rather than more than you think you'll need, you're not going to want a load of turkish lira to change back.

Two of us will be there pretty much all Saturday and Sunday, I'll probably only take about £100 in cash for both of us for anywhere thats cash only or i just want to use cash and then I'll have my card and contactless as the extra option.

yes 2 people can travel with 1 istanbulcard. Most of the machines take only TL cash for loading. There are some other machines but i dont trust in them. i use this app to load my card. Check this app.

this is the english version. check it. you may load money from here. There is QR code in it. Most people (for marmaray) use their mobile phones (via QR code-they dont use card) at Marmaray and MEtro.

Your are right. Since the start of 2023, contactless credit/debit cards can be used.

Hi, no worries,
best way from taksim to stadium is metro. After the game to taksim, again metro, but there will also be busses there. Metro entrance will be too crowded. So you may also get the bus (since there will be no traffic after 00.00, when the game ends.

if you can, sure, prebook a taxi. but i dont think finding a taxi at sabiha will be a problem.

taxis like to travel long distances in istanbul. so in airports, there are lots of taxis.
