It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

If we do sign Khusanov and/or Reis, given their age and position they play in, it doesn’t really seem to address the issue of our defensive midfield or lack of goal threat.

It addresses the issues of defense at the back and our backline easily conceding goals and counters attacks, it addresses our docile and slow defense, that is very bad at defending at the moment. By the way, Khusanov can play DM, not suggesting he should play DM for a Pep team. I just hope we don't invert Akanji or Stones to play DM.

Reports have come out, City are shopping for Midfielders. I doubt we come out of this window without getting them.
Richard Rios is one name.

Marmoush is the goal threat, plus the creative outlet, hence we getting him. Bobb is back in training too.

Does it?

I can’t profess to have seen either play but I’m not convinced either Khusanov or Reis would be ready for our first team.

Luiz is the ideal player to buy for the long term.

I’ve been getting a bit bored of hearing Blues say ‘we need a Rodri replacement’, like Rodri’s being sold or something (I don’t mean you because you didn’t say that, I just mean in general).

We don’t need a Rodri replacement, we need a Phillips replacement. We need someone who can be understudy to Rodri but is also both good enough to play with Rodri while Rodri does his 2023-24 #8 damage and to play without Rodri while Rodri gets a rest.

Luiz is a huge upgrade on Phillips or fresh air.
Great post. I mean who the fuck in world football can ever replace Rodri. Not 1 person in my opinion.
We just need adequate players to come in and Nunes and Phillips are not that I am afraid. Luiz I would take all day.

Not saying perrone is the answer
But these type of players are needed in the squad for when the injuries and suspensions come
Constantly playing players out of position catches up with you
Sadly, Perrone has been injured since the 8th game of the season (hematoma in his thigh) and is just getting back to fitness. It's a shame as he was looking good under Fabregas.

There's nothing wrong with our defence (apart from Walker); the lack of midfield cover is leaving it exposed too often.

Besides, the two defenders are unlikely to make a difference to the team anyway, given their ages.

The issue for me with our defence is the injuries they seem to sustain. Stones as much as I love the lad is made of glass. Ake for me is one of our most key defenders but again made of glass. If we can get the ones in we are linked to then I am not sure we can keep Stones etc as squad players on 300k a week!!
I know Chelseas model literally has 2 squads but I know that isn't us.
Personally hoping for 2 or 3 in January then a Musiala or Wirtz in summer

Maybe for now, they are used as stop gaps during the injuries. Khusanov is rapid and looks good from the little I have seen. I am still not fully sold on Reis, maybe he will be a world beater, we will see. I would have gone for Singo, can play both RB and CB.

I love John Stones but I think the only way we get him playing regularly for us is if we change our kit to white and pretend we are the England national team playing an international tournament. Then he will suddenly and magically be able to play a game every 3 days.

It’s funny everyone getting excited about these 2 CBs who will cost 100m and it will make no difference to our season ha!

Doubt they will cost 100m in the end. Or that we will get both.

Whether either makes a difference, time will tell.

Can't wait till lunchtime, for Pep to shit all over all this excitement in his presser.

The fact that out of 4 CB's, none of them seems to be regularly fit, then that's a problem. We need some reliability as we've got Ake and Akanji hobbling through games, Stones being Stones and even Ruben struggling with injuries. Having 2 new CB's won't mean they suddenly get thrown in every game, but it will hopefully let Pep give them the recovery time they need.

Nothing wrong? Lack of concentration more often than not, injuries, lack of recovery pace to the backline, mistakes. Yes our midfield exposes them to attackers, but they seem like sometimes they forgot how to defend.

That's a fair point, but they're very young and will make lots of mistakes.

Yes, plus it will mean he can use one of them as a right back, whther thats Akanji or one of the new ones.
