It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Our plan, I think, is to wait to see how things stand on Wednesday evening.

If we're still in the 2 majors (that are the CL & PL) we'll back ourselves to progress in the playoffs and get Cambiaso & Luiz in. More stress due to more matches means more need for top players.

If we're not still in the CL (i.e. eliminated against Bruges) we won't get anyone in and bet that our 1 serious match per week will see us able to get a Top 4 (maybe even Top 5) place with our current squad.

The first is instant gratification, the second allows Viana to try to put perfectly round pegs into perfectly round holes & also probably saves us a bit of cash.

Won’t work in February though will it when we probably get beat In at least 3 of our league games? Two signings gives us a huge chance of top 4, champions league push and the FA cup?

I'd wager that they don't give a hoot about the prestige or the 35p you get for winning the FA Cup.

I'd also wager that they know that the PL title is gone, and so - as mentioned - probably reckon that we should be able to secure a Top 4/5 spot with what we currently have (and players like Bobb, Stones, Dias returning). We don't have to play anyone that other teams don't have to play / have already played.

Which is why it's about whether we can put up a better showing in the CL (which won't be applicable if we're knocked out on Wednesday).

If we're still in, we'll spend. If we aren't then we won't.

Of our direct competitors we have - between now and the end of the season - Newcastle, Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton at home, with only Arsenal & Forest away (and yes, I'm including Arsenal because as much as the press loves to fawn over them, and unlikely win over them next week would take us to within 3 points).

So, as much as I - as much as anyone (otherwise I wouldn't be on this Forum) - likes shiny new things, it may not be the end of the world if we get knocked out on Wednesday.

Will the club buy anymore player before the deadline, I’m not sure? I hope they will.

Stopping Liverpool winning the quadruple is more than enough reason to take the FA Cup seriously.

Can (could) Cambiasso and Luiz play for us in Europe or would they be cup tied - cba checking, but has it been mentioned.

There is a possibility that Cambiaso is coming in to cover for Gvardiol’s position whilst he is moved into a Central Defensive position. He far too versatile not to be at least trialed there.
He’s far too much of a goal threat to not be played at lb surely- that side of his game would be wasted at cb

Josko - Ake- Dias - Cambiaso

I reckon

Dunno why, but my brain is currently drilled to have the keeper at the top when putting out formations.

If the plan is to get Cambiaso, play Akanji/Stones as DM, then they could be used a bit like the CMs last night - split the CBs, have a CM between, push the FBs up. Interesting

System Vinny kinda has Bayern doing with Kimmich making the 3.

We can register a maximum of 3 new players that werent registered for the Group phase, but there is no 'cup tied' anymore.

Players just have to be registered in time for the Group phase & Knockout phase registration dates (which includes the playoffs).
