It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

PSG spent 200m and signed the following:

1 - Joao Neves
2- Vitinha
3- Barcola
4- Doue or whatever his name
5-Kvara
6- Nuno Mendes
We could’ve signed Neves but chose Gundogan who essentially has the same physical attributes as Neves but worse in every other quality aside from experience

What if Neves never interested to join City like Bellingham did?

We might actually tried but for some various reasons the player in question just flatout refused.

Fuck knows how much we're going to have to shell out this summer, we need huge talents & first team regulars, not just squad filler & kids
I just hope we dont see anymore of these Doku/Savio/Khusanov/Reis type of signings, I have nothing against these players in particular but half the squad is already full of young players currently not good enough to be a regular starter in a team that aims to be the best in the world. We need elite players that will come in and deliver right away. We need a real replacement for Mahrez, not a young Brazilian that looks exiting but has 2 goals in 31 games. We will need a real replacement for KDB, not some talent we hope can possibly reach is level in a few years from know. We need an elite RB to replace Walkers world class performances over the years, not a young and exiting RB with the occasional good attacking run but that cant defend. We need an elite midfielder to replace Gundogan, not an exiting talent that will have problems even starting ahead of Kovacic.

Since winning the treble it seems like our strategy on the transfer market changed. Instead of replacing the several elite serial winners leaving with top replacements we decided to replace them with objectively far worse players in what I can only imagine being because we wanted to win the net spend trophy. If we want to be the best team in the world we need to bring in top players and stop believing Pep will turn every average talent to a world star over night.

I understand that we can't compete with the Cartel clubs some times, but competing against PSG is not impossible

City can match the salary & agent fees

In addition to that we have the advantage of the League + Pep and his Portuguese friends

Having outperformed PSG for the last decade, I don't see them as aspirational.

In addition, we are yet to see the development of Reis, Khusanov, Doku, Savinho, and Marmoush, as they are all either just with us or very young.

I looked at that team last night and it's a million miles away from competing.

Someone said it was reminiscent of Pep's first season.
Not even close.
We had great talent, at the right age.
These lot are generally old and the kids are not Ferna, David Silva, Aguero etc....
Haaland, Rodri and Dias are the same level as those guys you quoted.

If it was a million miles from competing it wouldn't have been 2-1 up against Real with 5 mins to spare.

Haaland
Gvardiol
Dias
Foden
Savinho
Rodri (when back fit)
Gonzalez
Carson

We've got a good spine to build around, which also doesn't include those with lots of potential to grow such as Doku, Marmoush, Bobb.

Unfortunately we do need a bit of a clear out and top signings in key positions (right back, midfield) but we're not a million miles away.

It’s been shockingly poor over the last number of years. It leaves the club with no room for error anymore
Exactly, what was the need for 2 unproven kid centre backs at 30 million each. Id understand if it was 10 million each, but 30 million id expect them to improve us massivley now, not in 3 or 4 years.

Yep, all high quality young players with Rodri and Dias being the oldest at 28.
You can add Marmoush to the list too.
