It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Cherki has a reputation obviously and the fact that Maitland-Niles has to say he’s improved in public is even more worrying for me.

Only watched a You tube video of Cherki, never seen him play but from those bits I've seen he looks a player Pep might use wide but not one he'd trust in the middle like Wirtz seem very different players to me, Could be wrong to be fair though as not seen enough.

Not sure about Cherki. Clearly gifted but looks like one of those languid playmakers who plays the game at his own pace whereas we need someone more dynamic. Assuming Wirtz isn't coming this summer, Xavi Simons would probably be the one.

do we think there's anything in the link to Exequiel Palacios coming out of argentina

We will lose out on Wirtz and we're going to end up spending £100m on MGW and another £80m on a player like Wharton or Morgan Rogers.

That’s not very good…

Feels like a Haaland situation all over again. Every club and his dog wants Wirtz - as they did Haaland - it's just this time the player hasn't been a lifelong blue and isn't desperate to join.

I presume he'll stay in Germany and go to Bayern. Although if he's adamant he wants to leave one day and play abroad, he'd be best looking at which club wouldn't stand in his way. We've always been fine with allowing players to leave (I presume that's a Khaldoon stance and not solely Txiki/Pep) but I doubt Bayern's ego would be the same.

Despite what he's likely being told during meetings.

I don’t mind Roger’s he is good at least

He isn't an £80m player which is what Villa would want.

The big problem City have coming up this summer is we could end up with too many foreigners and too few homegrown. This will force the hand of the club to buy HG talents which we will no doubt spend big money on.

I read Gvardiol and Khuzanov will both have to be counted towards foreigner quota from next summer as well, previously we were benefiting from having them on the U21 quota.

But what do you want City to do if Wirtz just doesn’t want to come?!?

Be a bit more intelligent with the transfers.

For me MGW is not a City player. He is a good player, but like Grealish, he just isn't suited to Pep football in my opinion.

It's no coincidence he has thrives in a team with the lowest amount of possession in the league this season and at Wolves before that. All that space to run and play in suits him.

For me, and I am no DOF obviously, just a fan. However I would go and get Baena at his £50m release and Cherki at his £25m rumoured release.

~£75m and you have statistically two players who are in the top projectile creatively in Europe this season, and two players who would fit far better in a Pep team than MGW and Morgan Rogers.

this is the issue some fans have it as wirtz or bust and can't get there head around the fact that wirtz may just not want to leave germany atm and will use that to slag the club and board off

Not really, Ake and Stones most likely stay, and chances are the 3rd keeper will be homegrown, so probably only one space in the homegrown list would need filling Wharton seems favourite for that) any other homegrown would be on the free list of 17 so would make no difference whether homegrown or not. Morgan is different if he qualifies for the club trained list.
Gvardiol and Khusonov weren’t on the U21 list for CL they were in the main list.

the club will need to get homegrown players in if a lot of our english players leave in the summer but i would love for baena to come to city

But it’s just been pointed out we might need home grown players

Baéna, Cherki. At least 2 possible options for the play maker spot. Wirtz will stay in Germany to 99%.
Wharton is someone for homegrown but might be the reason we wouldn’t go for someone like Reijnders. Unless it’s really going to be a very big summer. 2 fullbacks , 2 CM , a 10 and possible a new GK would be the right idea if we don’t wanna end up like United
