It isn't the result, it's the manner as well...

Ye, exactly. Looking at their results against the 'bigger' teams, a draw wouldn't have been the end of the world, but its the fact that they are notorious for being defensive, and are statistically the worse attack in the league, that makes it so hard to swallow, as we were leading. Add this to Sunderland, the FA cup games, Villa, Blackburn, Birmingham at home, Wolves away and Wolves at home was hardly convincing. We have had a poor January really.

We aren’t as good as we thought we were. Defense looks shaky and Joe begins to look poor at times. There is a lot of the season to go and I’ll always be behind the team but unless we start to turn things round we may find ourselves in a scrap with Liverpool for 5th rather than having to worry about a CL place. Chelsea are getting stronger and Spurs ground out a hard away win (something we can’t do at the moment) and our last 2 results give out 2 main rivals (Spurs and Chelsea) a real boost. Now we’re playing catch up with Chelsea (given their match in hand) rather than the other way round. In fact, our performance tonight gives all teams a boost – they’ll come at us and fancy getting something.

We were supposed to be ‘gelling’ and getting better as the season progressed – at the moment we are very clearly getting worse – I lost count of the number of misplaced passes. For anyone who says it’s a hard match and it doesn’t matter, Mancini disagrees, he wants to know why we “only played for 15 minutes”

Our defensive record definately flatters to deceive; we have been very shaky recently. I think saying it is a battle for 5th is a bit OTT, but we do seem to have stalled a bit at the moment.

Everyone knew tonight was going to be a tough game, so I am not saying we should have won easily. However, it proved, yet again, how far off the top we are. I don't care that they didn't win here, it's the fact that we were leading TWICE and let them get back into it, top teams simply do not do this. When they are infront they rarely let opponents have a sniff. United were losing 2-0 at Blackpool.....what happened? Chelsea last night? Arsenal last night? We not only fail to come back, but we let teams get back into it.

You can say this is knee jerk, but anyone who cares about city will be gutted after that. We have spent masses of money, yet we seem to be throwing any hopes of comfortably slipping into the top 4 away. Our form is hardly great, wolves wasn't exactly brilliant (conceding 3), all 3 FA cup ties and whilst we played pretty stuff about Villa, we lost. Chelsea are back on it again, Arsenal and Utd are getting results and Spurs won tonight. Dzeko needs time, thats for sure, but it would help if he can do it sooner rather than later, but I completely accept he needs time.

We conceded 2 against the statistically worse attack in the league, when we were leading, both times. This is not what top teams do.

United 3-3 Everton
Wigan 2- Arsenal 2
etc etc

More recent results;

united 5-0 Birmingham
birmingham 0-3 arsenal

5th could be a reality unless we pick things up - Spurs and Chelsea are on us - Sadly I don't think 5th is beyond a realisitc possibility

I think we have to take into account that Sabster is the same poster who has continually (including tonight) slated De Jong. Therefore that pretty much renders his opinion useless for me....!

Exactly what I've been thinking

No 5th is a a possibility, of course it us. But you said it would be a 'battle with liverpool'. I don't think it will be a battle, whilst Lpool have had 3 wins in the trot, I can't see them gaining that much ground on us. It's between us Spurs and Chelsea, but Chelsea really look to be getting it together. And whilst I think Dzeko will be good, Torres will make an immediate impact there, Dzeko will take time by the looks of things!

I wanted to say it to him earlier on this thread, but I know you can't get too personal. But after seeing what he was writing on another thread...its almost like its something personal.

They have also kept 3 clean sheets aswell. unlike us who are letting goals in everytime our oppositition has a set piece practically.

I really can't see Liverpool catching us up; no matter what the last few performances have suggested we ARE better than that. We need to sort it out though.

Mancini is God.

Don't you dare argue with this by stating that:
We can't defend set pieces any more.
We have no ambition going forward when in front.
Vieira is past it.
We don't have enough creative players.
Adebayor and Santa Cruz are better than Jo.
You are better than Jo.
Both teams had to play on the bad pitch.
Both teams had to deal with an incompetent ref.
Boeteng is worse than other options we have.

Mancini is God.
