Our mam baked her own every day, oven bottom muffins name comes from the dough left over from bread tins was shaped then baked on the bottom of the oven straight out of oven with butter and jam delicious Late summer was best with Windberry pie

I must be posh. Because a barm cake and an oven bottom muffin are two completely different bread products.

When I was a kid in the 60s “oven bottom” & “barm” weren’t part of a kid’s vocabulary in my neighbourhood in East Manchester. Muffin, all day long.
