That's not a criticism because Barry was a solid player and criminally underrated by fans of other clubs but I'm looking at some of the rumoured fees and thinking surely I'm missing something here?

Fees for English players have been ridiculous in recent years so maybe it's following that trend. Look at the likes of Ben White and Jack Grealish and the £100m+ fee being touted for Dele Alli a couple of years ago or the one Spurs were asking for Harry Kane last year.

It's not something I particularly care about but the squad is heading towards the end of a cycle with various players heading into their thirties or running down their contracts and so I don't really get the idea of blowing silly money on a player who isn't a direct improvement on any of the players he'd be playing alongside or replacing.

The Barry comparison is interesting. He was great for us, but not £100m good.
 
Paqueta is an attacking mid. That's the position of least need. Still think this Nunes fella is mint, but again he's more of a Gundogan type.
