It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Huge gamble if you are right.

its mental if he`s right to be honest!! we need a solid good class left back? someone who when needed can step in at a good level, rotation position but around the £20-30m level so we can rest Cancelo when required.

anyone else think we may be holding back on transfers until January due to the World Cup?

There’s always a few decent breakout stars and it’s a good way to scout potential targets!
I don’t think that really happens anymore. Clubs have wisened up that international tournaments are not a good barometer for how good a player is or could be.

There are currently twenty players in our League 1 who are internationals.

Someone looking great doing 360° pirouettes and dribbling around a Bolton Wanderers player and nutmegging a player who plays in a league where they sacrifice a goat on the pitch prior to kick off, to set up a goal, doesn’t get them a big price tag slapped on them as “the next big thing” anymore.

Every club in Europe already knows exactly who are the top prospects at U18 level in Europe and South America these days. There are never any breakout stars in international tournaments anymore.

If its cover for injures we need though we need a player that can do what Walker and Cancelo did at West Ham.i I dont’t know who but there won’ t be too many with that ability

depends if pep is going to do the same thing every game mate?

With three weeks to go in the transfer window I don’t see how it can be “obvious“ (as I’ve seen on BM) that we won’t bring any more new players in.

Starting the season with two full backs was clearly not the plan. Behind the scenes I can’t see Pep telling Txiki that his squad is now fine and he is happy to go with what he has been given. City spent too long going after Cucurella and thank god Chelsea came in and put a definitive stop to the uncertainty.

I don’t think for one minute City are thinking “ah well we had a crack but it wasn’t to be” City have to bring in a full back at the very least. To start the season with two isn’t ideal but everyone makes mistakes. To let the window shut with our defence as it is would be dereliction of duty for a club wanting to win the Champions League.

It isn’t going to be easy, because we have shown our hand, but it has to be done nevertheless.

especially with Pol stating that Pep isnt happy with the balance of the squad?

It's not.

His contract was €14m/season, £220k/week.

It's going up to much higher in the next 2 years ~€20m, £330k/week because he's getting backpaid the deferred salary from 2021 and 2020.

Barcelona have leaked his contract to the Spanish press, we know the numbers now, don't need to rely on the old rumoured numbers which were far higher than reality.
Are we talking about FDJ ? Won't they get in shit for leaking his contract ? I remember a huge shit storm when Messi had his contract leaked

then its absolutely mental that UEFA or FIFA havent stepped in to stop them buying players etc? let alone this holding company that they secretly set up to pay themselves etc?
I've just read that the FDJ issue stems from a 2 year extention that would have took him to 2026. He would earn 20 m euros this year and 25m euros next year. They want to go back to 2019 contract which would mean he only had 2 years left.

This is going to get seriously Messi lol
