It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

People need to understand that the RC was not in any way put there because he has an intention of leaving. Raiola used to do this constantly and asked any club who wanted to sign him to put it. In fact, the use it most likely will have is to get an improved contract rather than to facilitate an exit
Reassuring

I don't care about the release clause. If a player wants to leave we usually always getting stiffed on the fee. At least this way there is a number attached and if he plays to his potential then we get back more than what we paid. At least it's not a very low number

If he leaves in a few years it'll only be because of being sick of the weather, the lack of decent Norwegian restaurants, the constant abuse of a biased media and the shitty airport.

What pisses me off is that our owner could do something about all of those if he really really wanted to. #lazymansour

Just like this little fella, did not seem to worry him...

but doesnt a release clause mean that if someone comes in and activates it the club have no control whether the player leaves or not? With Kun it ddint matter what bid we received, we could always turn it down and he was tied to city from the moment the ball hit the back of the net in the 93:20 moment...that bond was going to be inseperable as long as we were competitive...

And if a club was to do that they would have obviously sounded out the player and his agent before hand os they would know the player wouldnt refuse?

Its just a bit of a pain in the arse that it gives the wank stains in the media something to hang over his head and the clubs head for the next few years....you can almost guarantee that nearly every piece that is written about Haaland over the next couple of years will contain a line in it somewhere reading something like....

"and Haaland, who has a release clause in his contract for the end of season xxxxx, bagged his second goal of the game soon after............."

That’ll depend on how big the clause is. The higher it is, the less likely it will ever get triggered.

Also, even if it is triggered, it would then be up to Haaland to decide whether to go or not. He may well be happy to stay.

yeah i get that and i know we have seen before the clubs ability to create that environment where the players want to stay

Its just the ability of the media to create that narrative that bugs me a little.....I have very little time for the scum suckers as all

Would there be this much of a kick off if he’d signed for Madrid and had a release clause? All the best players have had them for years. Normally daft money so even if it was activated we’d be quids in. Don’t worry he’ll be like most of the lads who play for us he’ll get it and stay a long time. The buy out clause is just a crumb of comfort for our media who are fuckin distraught he’s signed for us!

IF the player wants to leave and if that's the case, whoever the player is , adios

Without a release clause, if he didn't settle and pushed for a move we would let him have it anyway. At least a release clause protects us from the uncertainty of that position. Anyway, he will settle and come to love the club and challenge Kun as all time goal scorer.
If he doesn’t settle and wants a move, or we want him out, he’ll be gone for whatever we can get for him and a ‘release clause’ is neither a benefit nor hinderance to that.
All a RC does is set a value that, if met by a potential suitor, City would have to let him speak to them and then release him from his contract should he want to leave. It can also be revised upwards, should the club and the player agree at a future date. I’d imagine, if he’s a raging success, that would happen as part of any contract change, should he be offered more cash and/or a longer deal.
