It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Seko Fofana could be an interesting option.

Has evolved into one of the best midfielders in France. Dynamic box to box player, which is allegedly the type we’re looking for this summer. Most significant is that he’s ex-City having spent some time in our academy. I’m sure we’ll know a lot about him via the team at Troyes. I expect not too expensive either coming from Lens.

One of those deals that could make sense for a number of reasons - but one I fully expect not to happen!
His midfield partner is a beast as well. Doucoure.

Ah that hoary old chesnut - "if he played the kids more" !

None of the four teams currently in the top four (and very likely to be there after Sunday's games) give many minutes to young inexperienced players.

The reason for that I woud suggest is that there is too much at stake for such teams.

Only Spurs have given more minutes to players currently aged 21 or under in the league this season. They clocked up 2,402 minutes, and most of those were for Skip and Sessegnon.

City admittedly gave most of the 2,202 minutes to Foden but still managed to play the most young players. Coles minutes would surely have been greater but for injury.

Chelsea only used one 21 year old and that was Hudson-Oboi.

Liverpool's total was 1,128 minutes and over half that went to Curtis Jones.

City could give Academy players more time in the League cup but Pep wants to win everything so time will continue to be limited for yound players unless they expceptional.

Younger players who need lots of game time to develop will continue to go on loan.

But isn't the reason that players like Mount, James, and Alexander-Arnold are now considered seasoned pros precisely because they did get minutes when they were under-21 players?

Also, my point was that if Pep wants, by his own admission, a smaller senior squad supplemented by academy players, that he does actually need to supplement it with academy players. We've battered a few teams this season and could easily have given some minutes to academy lads

Mount spent 2 seasons at Vitesse and Derby before joining Chelsea's 1st team at 20 years old. Reece James spent 1 season at Wigan before moving up to the 1st team, again at (just short of) 20 years old. They didn't get any minutes for Chelsea before that.

Lots of CM contracts up in 2023.

Douglas Luiz, Bissouma, Tielemans, Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanchez, Aouar, Laimer, Svanberg, Puig, Jorginho, Kante,

Wonder who'd be tempted with a cut price offer.

I wonder if we pry Jorginho away. He's old enough that could be seen as a temp fix for Gundo till McAtee is ready.

But he actually scores penalties so doesn't seem to be a City player..

I'd be all over Laimer and Ruiz, all though Bayerns seems to have Laimer in the bag. Sanchez as well but Milan bound I think

Great points. Contrast to Alexander-Arnold, who made his Liverpool debut at 18. Either way, those players were gaining first-team experience somewhere in a way that several of our most talented lads simply aren't right now. I know we have a couple of lads out on loan but we seem to only loan out the players we don't think are going to make it at City

He had one saved by Fabianski a few weeks back. And Pickford saved his in the Euros final.

If i'm correct, Barcelona still haven't paid the first installment of Ferran Torres deal and owe us 14mil. If they can't pay it, would that make it easier for us to get De Jong because we'd have leverage?

Imho, with having a full pre-season with no international competitions I think Pep will evolve and go for the back 3 he has tried a number of times. He has to counter what has become our achilles heel, which was perfectly demonstrated against West Ham and Spurs recently. Only Walker has the pace in the back 4 we have and he may play a diamond with a sweeper to shut the door on those long balls over the top. If he’s going to play Haaland up front on his own, again it will need a new system to utilise this aspect.

I like your thinking.

Sorted lol.

Just had edited one of my previous comments - where one member had posted a potential line up with felix.

Telling that - in both of the line ups yours and the other posters - Jack our most expensive signing is not there. Last few weeks have been encouraging and hope that it will go the same way as Mahrez , cancelo , bernie etc. -adapting in their 2nd years

You could drop him for De Jong, I just wanted the rumoured new lad in the picture tbh.

Stop peddling the myth that they had poor first seasons.... Don't try and bolster a poor start by Grealish by diminishing other players....
By your reckoning, if we have five new players who all take at least a year to perform...we may as well forgo next season. Behave.
