It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

It can but they stand at

-€144m (Current Salary Cap)
€700m from Sales of the assets tonight. (49% of all merchandising & 25% of the TV deal for the next 50 years)
€556m (New Salary Cap Limit)

Current Wage bill = €560m

They get closer to being able to play ball but still need to sell to buy etc.
For next year, presumably. But this is a one-off income so they will be right back at -144 the year after presumably, less even as they have sold some of their future income. Is that how it works? If so, they must be really hoping for their ESL windfall ....

Excuse the twitter source, but, this is a top top barca source. If they do still need to buy to sell it is basically frenkie out for bernardo in.

If that's the case and bernardo wants to go and they have united as a buyer for de Jong then the deal is possible. I'd prefer us to take de Jong though on a swap deal + a bit of cash.

Bernardo price is €100mil, if that's met we'll sell but we won't be compromising

Barcelona may have a bit of cash but their rebuild is massive, they go for bernardo they aren't getting Lewandowski who appears to be their priority

They are more likely to get Raphinha as hell be cheaper and on smaller wages

They can't even register Kessie or Christensen atm

Well clearly Jesus and Torres are replaced by Alvarez/haaland.

Haaland is filling a void, not replacing a current member. An Aguero void, that we carried for a year.

Alvarez is replacing Torres.

Sterling or Jesus leaving, leaves us short again. Jesus can possibly be worked around by being more flexible with what we have, depending on Alvarez hitting the ground running, and Palmer having a breakthrough. Don't think Pep wants that many ifs. Sterling would need replaced, he contributes too much for that to be shared by less bodies.

I don't necessarily think it leaves us short. If both leave, then yes, I'd agree. But I think it'll be one of the two.

Palmer is an outstanding talent. At some point or other we have to start trusting our youth. I'd be more than confident of Cole matching the productivity of either player, should we lose them.

If we really wanted Frenkie we'd have pushed harder and got it done already imo, swap or not. The lad clearly wants CL football and would leave for us than the rags.
I think the biggest issue for Barca is that he's a fantastic player but on something like 500k a week. Barca cannot sustain that with a salary cap of something like €144m euros, they have these young gifted players who need new contracts but they can't even do that, well they can now they have this new money. They really need to get players on sensible contracts and use 500m of the 700m to service some of the immediate debt then maybe 200m to freshen up the squad.

It is rumoured pep is a big fan of FDJ but the fee quoted and wages are probably too much unless Frenkie takes a massive wage cut to around 200k a week. If they want Bernardo then they'd have to give us frenkie and 30m imo. Its complex but we will have to see

Sterling hypothetically leaving, leaves us short for sure. Jesus leaving leaves us short, but not unthinkable that can be absorbed. Both leaving and it's at least one new top replacement.

Alvarez isn't replacing Torres , nobody is. Jesus will go and we will be at our 21 squad size. Nobody else will come in unless somebody else leaves.

Palmer is an outstanding talent but he won’t start most games he will get 5 mins maybe 10 mins at the end of a game. The Same way Foden did at the start. This is, what Palmers second season with the first team fully. I think fans that think he’s going to get loads of game time need to be a bit more realistic.

he will get minutes here and there. Sub appearances. Cup games that’s how Pep inter grated Foden over time until he was fully ready etc You definitely have to replace either Sterling and Jesus due to their output over a season, Sterling no matter what people think has chipped in with important goals and assists , Jesus the same. Going into a season not replacing two important players would be ridiculous and bad planning

Bit left field but keep Sterling for a year and see how him combines with Haaland ?

This, I think he'll thrive with a focal point up there - the attention will be away from him and his movement is up there with the best in the world.

I think Grealish will step up another level too with Haaland to play off.

My biggest concern is Bernardo's attitude when he returns to pre-season training. He trained badly last pre-season and didn't really get his head together until after the window had closed. If he pitches up like that again it will be tantamount to trying to force a move and would show a real lack of professionalism. The reality is Barcelona's financial situation is well documented. They cannot afford to pay us 100 million euros for him, in fact I'd guess they can't even pay half of that.

I don't particularly like FDJ as a replacement either. I don't want to do Barcelona any favours. They have to find the money and pay it to take Bernardo. Otherwise they, along with Mendes, can fuck right off. They signed a long contract at City and Mendes will have taken his cut from that too. They are in the Kane boat in that City are under absolutely no pressure to sell him and have years left on his deal.

Tbf he was one of our best players last season. A poor pre season didn’t really have much effect on that. Despite wanting to leave he was also one of our most professional players

He got his head together because it was the only way to get back in the team. Absolutely once he was back in he was amazing. I just think that there's a way to move, even during preseason, which shows respect for the club. You can be sad, but you're still paid handsomely and should show that in training every day. But maybe I'm being too idealistic. I don't like players who don't want to play for City. No matter how good they are.

What do u think personally think Ahsan, u think IF Barca get the 80-100m required (thru their economic levers or whatever its called ) - city allow him to go despite their reluctance? OR will city do what we usually don't, tell them to respect their contract, so he is just so important as our midfield engine

And this is the issue, the fear of rejection…

If any player can leave with his head held high, leaving it all out on the pitch, it’s Bernardo….as in life, sometimes you have to let things you love go, before it turns bitter, where I’d imagine we’ve all stayed too long, somewhere or other…
