It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Ultimately though, the club sets the fee and there’s little agent or player can do on a lengthy contract. Hopefully nothing in it and no biggy if Zinny stays.
If the player or agent is afraid to upset the apple cart (ie risk temporarily souring a relationship with brighton owner to negotiate a tolerable, high sure but realistic valuation) to get a move from brighton to man city thats pretty weak professionally. If it fails, hes worth too much to be frozen out, theres no risk i see.

The reason we didnt get Kane last summer was because of his agent not being strong enough to deal with Levy. If we dont sign Cucarella this summer it will be because of his agent not standing up to Bloom (who is well within his rights to demand as much as he wants).

Assuming its accurate, this is his agent: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emg-mundial-sports-media-gmbh/beraterfirma/berater/2793

Cucarella the most valuable, after top 2 ive never heard of the rest. Its an outfit not used to these size of transfers and could be the undoing of it all.

I'd have to know more about Brighton's squad to take an educated guess.

But if they wanted to sell Cucurella then he'd be here already. Their stance seems to be that we can have him but only at the right price. If that's the case then reports of Zinchenko possibly staying are hardly going to effect their valuation of their own player.

The news regarding Zinchenko must mean we've pulled out of signing Cucurella. I would have thought Zinchenko had been told we're looking to sign someone and therefore wanted to leave for playing time considering he'd be essentially third choice for the LB role. But something must have stalled in the Cucurella transfer and we've told him we're not signing anyone...and therefore maybe he's happy to stay.

I can see Cucurella as being Pep's only choice for the LB role, and that we had a value for him and have walked away. Maybe we'll revisit next year or maybe not.

The Martin Blackburn tweet might as well read 'City are weighing up whether to pull out of the Cucurella negotiations & keep a back-up LB who would be just as happy staying at City as going to Arsenal.'

On a separate note, its funny to see how things change from 'Its the end of the world because we're selling Oleks' to 'Shove off Oleks, we want to have the money to sign a proper LB'.

Only if it's the same people saying it.

I think that City & Zinchenko are at the point where we'd prefer Cucurella than Zinchenko (why we've agreed a deal with Arsenal), but in all truth Zinchenko would rather stay and will only go if Brighton accept an offer for Cucurella. I think that this is part of a tacit agreement between Zinchenko & City.

This is spot on, imo. Good analysis.

Haha this is getting well complicated… interesting though.

Im hoping for a new left footed LB (Cucurella as it stands) and Zin for cover.

On the right Cancelo and Walker sharing the workload.

This gives us two lefties on the left and two right footers on the right. They can then all cross first time to Haaland without the need to cut back onto the other foot.

Would be a good outcome. The squad space is there, there would be a free slot in fact. The money seems to be there and then some from all the sales alone. And we'd have cover at both sides. Plus then, we would have a bit more cover in midfield too, which I know is rare and unexpected, as Zinchenko only played in AM like 3 times (that I can remember).

Don't think it will be that though. Zinchenko will leave Cucurella or someone else will come in, and that might be that. With some 40 odd days for the club to see whetehr they think anything else needs reinficed before the window shuts.

It's a weird one because traditionally you would have two options in each full back role but Cancelo basically starts at LB unless Walker needs a rest. So Cucurella coming in means Zinchenko is 3rd choice LB behind our 2nd choice RB! And we have Laporte/Ake as the other players to fill in that position should we really need them. The four game run vs Atleti and Liverpool stretched us and our back 4 vs Real had Zin at LB and Stones at RB until Ferny had to then come on when Stones was injured! In the 2nd leg we managed to get 70 minutes out of Walker but then had to bring Zinchenko on and switch Cancelo from LB to RB. It's far from ideal in a game of that magnitude, but it's in those games where a lack of squad depth will really shine through.

Yes I was pretty confident I knew what City was up to after delving into how analysts thought Pep would play next season given our signings so far. I always though Cancelo should stay on the left and sign a right back to help Walker. After reading the analytical guesses they changed my mind to what I am now hoping for In my last post.

What has happened since, with City seemingly happy to sell Ake and Zin, has confused me and if I had to say what City are up to now I wouldn’t be nearly as confident.

I would probably go with your guess but I wouldn’t understand it. I can’t find a club in the PL with less than 4 full backs other than us…admittedly I only looked at the big 6. Plus if there was ever a season to stock up a little bit given that we have a small squad it has to be this one. The guys talking about adequate cover will be the first to panic in the Matchday thread if Cancelo goes down clutching his knee.

I’m no expert on left backs - hardly surprising given I support City - we’ve had some shockers over the years…. But if Brighton really are in the north of £50m space - that must bring a lot of lbs into play given most European clubs are skint. We must be able to get someone in who’s quality for that kind of outlay.
