It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Don't need an extra full back along with Cucurella (or alternative) Josh Wilson-Esbrand looks like he can step in if required.
Made me smile that Wilson-Esbrand and Rico Lewis look like gems and are from our academy. A left back and right back with such a promising future. Very excited, I hope they both make it at our club.

It's hard to see this deal will be done with buyback clause, because they (Southampton) want to maximise Delap selling potential within two year if he become world class.

If buyback clause still insisted being inserted then Southampton will be no under obligation playing him regulary in his first season, they will wait until his buyback clause expired playing him in here and there harming his development. I bet if buy back option didn't exist they will try to play him regulary to raise his selling potential to the max.
"If buyback clause still insisted being inserted then Southampton will be no under obligation playing"

What a load of crap, the more successful Delap is , the greater his value, clubs like Southampton will always have to sell their best players.

His value will be hampered by that said cheap buyback clause by us, if buyback didn't exist he will be 100m or more player. Southampton will not fear that city will try buyback him cheaply in range of 60m if he become worldclass within 2 years frame, he will be easily 100m or more selling him to the highest bidder

They will still make a huge profit if he is successful so your point is incorrect.

If Delap played that well to be considered a £60-£100m player, I think they’d be more than happy, buy-back or not.

Not huge enough, you can't see the reason of why Southampton first bid didn't include Buyback option to entice City to sell delap to them?.

Because they know they can make huge profit with him and that's why they will try hard to bring Delap to them without including buyback option. They will fail ofc because City stance will clear of this they will not let highly rated academy player like Delap without inserting buyback option.

Unless ofc City is willing to pay around 80m as buyback option then i think Southampton will be more receptive on buyback option for Delap

They could make a huge profit if he is successful or they could make a huge loss if his injury issues return.

A buy back option for us is a no brainer, it does not mean we think he will ever come back, it's just a sensible if he becomes a top level player.

Rather see Delap loaned to Championship tbh maybe to Burnley?

See how he fares there in season long loan after that will depends on how form he got for season playing championship club.

Listen I like Mitchell too but there are levels. You remember how good Wan-Bissaka was at Palace? You have to remember the modern game demands what these fullbacks can do offensively much more in comparison to what they can do defensively, it's why a lot of wingers end up playing as fullbacks now. Mitchell no doubt was excellent defensively but he has no offensive output to his game. In Cucurella we're probably aiming for that but also someone who, if has to go forward, is still decent enough.
Wan Bissaka was coached by Ole.

I'll just leave it there

Now it looks like we are playing with a 4 2 3 1 the squad depth is very good. sign a full back and it’s the strongest squad we’ve ever had imo.

Obviously if kdb got injured or needed a rest would expect foden or grealish to play in the 10 ahead of mcatee but with the squad we have and assuming we do sign a left back we have 2 players for every position.

I get an error code:

I am wondering why this is happening is it because I live in America?

If you have many versatile players, you don't actually need 2 players for every position, especially with the 5 subs rule ( not in spite of it!).

As Pep likes to say, Bernardo and Foden can play in 5 positions. Arguably, Alvarez can play at striker and both wings. Cancelo - at RB, LB and RW. Stones - CB and RB. Dias - RCB and LCB, Laporte - CB and LB (if we don't have other options there), same with Ake. Rodri, Phillips and Gundo can play at 6 and 8. Kevin - 8, 10, false 9.

Only 4-5 outfield players are narrow specialists: Walker, Mahrez and Haaland, to a lesser extent Grealish and Palmer, the latter two can play at false 9, Pep used them there in 1-2 games last season.

Given how many versatile players we have, Pep's idea to rely on 18 experienced players and 2-3 academy talents is probably justified. If we have more injuries than expected, we may buy players in January.

We need a new LB. But Pep might be wondering whether JWE deserves a chance. The problem is his injury record, not the talent.

I personally don’t think whether pep thinks JWE is ready or not is relevant. We will still need a full back imo. If we signed cucurella JWE would get minutes in the league cup and early fa cup rounds. He is very raw and after last season I really don’t want us going into next season with Walker and cancelo as the only 2 senior full back options. Whilst JWE played well yesterday there was times he was out of position and his inexperience showed.

3 senior full backs and JWE as a promising young player getting minutes in cup games etc would be ideal imo especially with the condensed fixture list next year

Has Cancelo banged your other half? You seem to have an irrational vendetta against him.
I don't doubt his footballing abilities or contribution to the team. He has had great performances and that "outside of the boot " pass to Sterling was incredible.

Dont like players overreacting or feigning injury.
There was one occasion I recall where Rodri went down clutching his face when he wasn't touched at all.
Sterling falling over at the slightest touch or Grealish rolling around four or 5 times would have the same affect on me.
I don't have any facts but Cancelo seems to overreact more than most.of our players.
Nowhere near as often as the Salah .Fernandes or Manes but its just something I don't like to see.
