It's a lot easier said than done, I mean £62 million for cucurella ffsDo I think we will sign a good enough LB eventually? Yes. That does however not change my opinion that I think we should have signed one already. Its not the end of the world if we sign one 1 day before the window closes. But I see few, if any, positives with signing one then instead of during the months before the season started, the time we usually sign players.
We'll sign one when the right one is available at the right price. We tried for Cucurella and it didn't work out. I'm sure we're working on other possibilities.True. But in my opinion its a stupid and unnecessary risk, which is why I was complaining about it. You are free to disagree. We could probably sell Dias & KDB without replacing them and still win the league. I would probably criticize Txiki for that to, even if Pep managed to win the league without them.
Like I said, I'm very happy with the signings we have made. I'm not happy with the LB and Bernardo situation. Its possible to think Txiki and the club is doing most parts of the transfer business great and handle other parts bad. Just because I think Haaland, Phillips & Alvarez are great signings that doesnt mean I also must think it was good starting the season with 5 defenders or think potentially selling Bernardo would be a good idea.I really don’t get this post. Are you just being sarcastic?? We made all our signings early (apart from the LB). This includes the most sought after CF in the world. When we used to leave it late everyone complained that the club didn’t know what they were doing.
I can assume we’ve been clarkied by you
Eider preferred Cucurella to be honest.I'm down as well
Mate - did you read Vesters posts???
To be clear, I personally prefer having a bit more depth than we do currently. It’ll be quite a spectacle to see Bernardo leave AND we don’t sign another FB.I just think we’re taking a calculated risk this season.
Pep imo wants to keep the dressing room happy. It’s a World Cup year. Everyone will want to play. He can’t play everyone.
If we have a big squad, more players will be upset leading to possibly a systematic performance issue in the team over the season.
If we have less players, he gets to play most of them regularly and they’re happy since that’ll give them a better shot at the WC, with the contentment potentially benefiting us a lot in club games over the season.
Obviously the trade off is the added risk of just a handful of injuries being enough to derailing the season.
But that’s the calculated risk.
I can get you your crisps but I can’t abide Bounty. Hagen Dazs cookie dough Instead?I’m not moving unless you provide Bounty ice creams and a great big fuck off size bag of Walkers Sensations Chicken and Herb crisps.
But nobody has said we’re selling Bernardo. We just wouldn’t (& rightly so) pay £62m for the Brighton full back. There are a few weeks left yet so why are you criticising the club already.Like I said, I'm very happy with the signings we have made. I'm not happy with the LB and Bernardo situation. Its possible to think Txiki and the club is doing most parts of the transfer business great and handle other parts bad. Just because I think Haaland, Phillips & Alvarez are great signings that doesnt mean I also must think it was good starting the season with 5 defenders or think potentially selling Bernardo would be a good idea.
Don’t get silly. We’re one player short of where we would ideally be.True. But in my opinion its a stupid and unnecessary risk, which is why I was complaining about it. You are free to disagree. We could probably sell Dias & KDB without replacing them and still win the league. I would probably criticize Txiki for that to, even if Pep managed to win the league without them.
Put your big boy pants onCant remember us being in such a bad situation transfer wise for years. I'm happy with the signings we have made, and I think Txiki has done a tremendous job for us over the years, but to have so much unfinished business at this point is just not good enough. The season has already started and we have 5 fit senior defenders, having sold a good squad defender 3 weeks ago without having his replacement lined up in time for when the season starts. I assume Txiki had done his job and had a list of LB alternatives long before the transfer window opened, especially when we decided to sell our only backup fullback. Why we decided to wait with bidding on Cucurella until there was no time to get a replacement in before the season started if we couldnt get a deal done, I have no idea. The same day our final bid for Cucurella was rejected we should be negotiating a deal with another club/player to make sure we are not extremely vulnerable when the season starts. No matter how you look at it, the whole LB situation has been poorly handled. The season has started, and no one is signed.
On top of this it looks very likely we are willing to let a key player leave for half his value without any real possibility to replace him without it being a huge downgrade, again when the season has already started. All because another club prioritized signing just about every other player in Europe before they turned to us, we are apparently the one club that had no issue with waiting until the very last weeks of the window to get a deal done, even if it puts us in a terrible position. Since Barcelona have already spent about 200m on other players we must apparently also have to settle with a ridiculously low fee since they now cant afford to pay us more.
What on earth are we doing? This is not how we usually handle business, or is a way any serious club should handle its business. Did Txiki have a stroke, or why is he allowing us to be in such a bad situation all of the sudden when he has never allowed it before? And if its not true, why are we allowing another club to talk about us and our players on a daily basis all summer without doing something about it?
Something is very strange about how we are handling our business this summer. Some clarity from the club would be welcomed.
But don’t you think we’ve done well so far - apart from refusing to pay £62m for LB many folk hadn’t noticed. We’ve still got time to get one - IF Pep chooses one he really wants rather than buying just for the sake of itYes-just over egging a situation that we are in,I get it,but also get that things are probably in hand as well, nobody is pressing the panic button, but this has been a strange window..............till now,and some are more anxious than others.
It's like posters who say wet knickers to people, they are probably wearing the wettest ones around,it will settle down, thankfully after 31 August.
But we are just mere fans, all this trust Txiki trust this trust that trust the process, that's all ok in writing, but deep down we are all feeling a bit head scratchy, and people are lying if they say otherwise.
People who are acting,or trying to act calmer than others is a bit of bravado if you ask me,and for those that are calm, what the fuck they are checking this thread for is beyond me
But it’s also an assumptionTo be clear, I personally prefer having a bit more depth than we do currently. It’ll be quite a spectacle to see Bernardo leave AND we don’t sign another FB.
That to me is slightly more than just a calculated risk..

Does big boys think starting the season with 5 senior defenders and potentially selling a key player for half his value is a good idea? Seems more like what you are describing is an idiot, not a big boy.Put your big boy pants on
You keep repeating this mate and it's why people are having a pop at your posts.Does big boys think starting the season with 5 senior defenders and potentially sellibg a key player for half his value is a good idea? Seems more like what you are describing is an idiot, not a big boy.
