It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Question is was it really Txiki's fault when both our #1 and #2 supposed targets prefer to go to Madrid or stay in London?

Not making excuses for him but maybe we have a list of players we wanted and after 1 and 2 were off the list.. we prefer our internal options (Foden/ McAtee/ Perrone in the middle) vs what is on the market.

If my supposition is true however.. moving Foden to the middle means we need wingers and we might move for a few that're rated higher than Carlos Borges!

To be fair I don't think we could have done anything about Bellingham going to Madrid but I don't think Rice preferred London and that's why we pulled out, I find the one bid and then dropping out a bit frustrating.

You're theory might be correct, with the usual Berndo merry-go-round and the reports of Mahrez considering a Saudi move our Right hand side will certainly need some bolstering with real quality.

End of last season there was a fair bit of mahrez to Gundo goals they will need to be replaced accordingly.

Thank you for being rude. Did I complain about the time? No I didn't I am worried because we missed our 2 main targets as replacements for Gundo.

Did you watch khaldoon interview? He also stated as soon as we won he wants more, there is no break for successful people, breaks are for pathetic people.

(I wouldn't usually use such language but you should realise you don't need to be rude to express an opinion, just because you don't agree doesn't make it a "pathetic post")
Remember when we missed out on Koulibaly and Kounde…? Who did we get a few days before the window closed?

Yes I know but there are also occasions when we have got it wrong. This window feels like it could be one of those.

Like last season who we got last season to cover for rodri LB? Kelvin and Sergio, the former couldn't buy a minute when gundo and rodri were clearly in need of rest and the latter who was shockingly bad on the rare occasion that he did get on the pitch

Working out a fair transfer value must be a strange game. If City really wanted Rice - what is the difference between £90m and £100m in a market where all the sums are bonkers? But clearly, for whatever reason the people that number crunch at City decided that £10m (+add ons) was a bid too far and not worth doing. We will see in the long run if they are right - and normally they have been.

But then I'm trying to compare Rice at £100M+ with Mount at £55M+. Now, I must say, I think Rice is a better player than Mount - I've never quite got the fuss around Mount, what I've seen of him the game is tending to pass him by, although the BBC today are saying he is an "exceptional" player! Whereas Rice looks like a player I would have been happy seeing come to City, I would not have been impressed with signing Mount. However, they are both 24years old, with good PL experience (Rice a bit more), England Internationals (M 36 caps, R 43 caps) 1 year left on contracts with clubs who need to sell. Mount also has CL experience - including a winners medal. Yet, the market says that Rice is worth £50M more than Mount - it's a bonkers market. Of course if Rice leads Arsenal to PL and CL wins then it will be worth it, and if Mount is part of doing the same for Utd then it will have been a very good deal for them - but at least one of them is unlikely to manage that - so what is their value then and how on earth do the accountants spin it?

And how did that turn out? Oh right, with a treble, as Nathan Ake and Manual Akanji stepped up.

I try and avoid commenting during silly season as it’s not a place for sense to reign until the season starts but having read a few pages back, one would think that Kovacic still plays for the opposition.

Hasn’t kicked a ball in sky blue and already getting pelters.

Typing all this now, just realised there’s no point. It’s silly season after all.

Enjoy your weekend blues.

We had our own evaluation of Rice and Arsenal went above it, that's why we pulled out. We have done it before with Curcurella and Kane in recent windows. We will not go above what we feel is a reasonable price.
It means we are less likely to be taken the piss out off as teams know we are willing to walk away

I think that those not sure about him will be pleasantly surprised. He is a top quality player.

Rightly so

It's the same in real life that it's only a bargain if you actually want the product and at the price it is going to cost
