We - and a lot of other clubs - moved players from 90% basic 10% performance related & bonus, to fifty fifty.

If they are in the team, they can earn more than before. If not, they are more likely to want to move.

Salary is now less than half the wage bill for big clubs.

Teams that didn't do this enough around that time: Barca, who are only just getting rid of the last of the deadwood.
