It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Another thing while listening to multiple podcasts about Man City during the last month was the interesting buy of Gvardiol. He was bought because he was available and Leipzig was willing to sell. In short an easier transfer negotiation.

A LB like Robinson would have been better investment in half the money but the board decided to take the easier option that they often tend to do in the last 4-5 years. There is a reason we only do release clauses because they are easy.

In order to revive the club into another cycle of stupendous success, we need to alter our playbook as most organisations do after a down period.

That's the wrong conclusion. Gvardiol, is rightly, seen as one of the best prospects at CB in world football and it was a protracted negotiation that ended with Leipzig being able to say they received a world record fee for a defender. That wasn't an easy option and Gvardiol has far more upside & ceiling than Robinson, plays 2 positions and is 5 years younger. His recent run of mistakes doesn’t diminish that. Considering the fitness/availability of Stones/Ake, getting another CB option definitely made sense (at the very least in hindsight).

Should we have got Robinson as well & had Akanji be a dedicated RB & release Walker, yes, yes we should have.

Gvardiol was a great buy. Had a v good first season. This year because of injuries we have heaped too much responsibility on him. If you think we paid what we did for him for a quick easy deal - you’re very wrong.
So quick to heap criticism on our young players.

I would be very surprised if the players brought in during the January window would be able to turn this season around dramatically tbh..

If Zubimendi can be persuaded to leave Sociedad that would be huge plus La Liga has a short break after the weekend. He could sign and be ready for West Ham. A release clause means no haggling but he’s already balked at a move to Liverpool at the 11th hour so don’t know how feasible this is.

The one thing about City since Berrada left is how little information leaks. We could have a few irons in the fire or nothing doing and we wouldn’t know any different.

Top 4 is now the target aim for that and see what happens. Still got the FA Cup and Champions League to have a bash at. Reinforcements could be the boost our squad needs.

If they get us back to winning ways and a top four finish then I’d take that as it’s looking less likely with each passing game.

Add to that the fact we’re still in the FA cup and Champions League then there’s still a lot to play for

Antonee Robinson is 27 and really has only become a top player worth looking at over the last 18 months

Gvardiol is 22 and widely regarded as one of the leading young defenders in world football and has had a good start to English football, being a big player fir us last year as we won the title

Not sure how you can say a former championship level player is a "better investment"
