It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Tbh, that’s kind of how I read the article - they aren’t looking for a specialist 6 to replace Rodri. More someone who can play either as a 6 or 8, like Guimaraes (although I think that boat has probably sailed). Probably wishful thinking though.
I’d personally go for Wharton as a Rodri understudy and Ferguson to deputise for Earling, move Nunes and Kovacic on and the squad is set for another go.

This is seriously fucking stupid from the club. Like do they not remember having Ilkay Gundogan and using him as a perfect Rodri understudy, whilst also using him as a starter most games ahead of Rodri? They just have to do the same again, not find a DM that’s happy to be on the bench most of the season. What the fuck are they on about? It’s beyond a joke at this point.
It's strange, not stupid (The board are very good at what they do) because they were ready to spend money on Rice and Guimares who can play 6/8 and would play 6/8 if they came to City. What's changed? Why can we only sign a backup 6? Why not a 6/8? If they want to promote Lewis there it's going to be a rough ride, he's not tall enough, not physical enough and won't add enough to goals. He's perfect to invert but actually playing in midfield permanently is another story.

Excellent point regarding Rice. I've resigned myself to the fact no one is coming in now. Think it's a massive gamble, but I've written these lads off before and won't be doing so again. Roll on Sunday.

My prediction is and I've said this before... We won't sign anyone else this window.

I just don't think we have identified any options on the market that are worth buying in the positions we need.

If we had identified targets, we'd have heard some murmurs by now.

We haven't been linked to anybody to replace Alvarez or anybody to be a deputy for Rodri.

Personally I'd have paid the 100m for Bruno G to begin with, but that ship has sailed now.

It's very difficult to find a player that is happy to accept playing second fiddle to Rodri. Kalvin Phillips would have been happy to do that, but sadly he wasn't good enough to even act as a deputy.

I think it's the same for a forward player coming in to play second fiddle for Haaland too.

Let's see what happens, but I think this is now our squad for the season.
